Tasks You develop and improve the distributional forecastingmodels of a growing software company in the grocery retail sector,working across model architecture, calibration and coverage You deepenexisting production models, monitor forecast quality metricscontinuously and act quickly when performance degrades You identifywhere current approaches reach their limits and shape what comes nextmethodologically You make substantial contributions to the inventorysimulation and ordering policy framework and drive improvementsthrough to production You shape the technical direction in your focusarea, contribute to methodology decisions and hold a high bar for codequality, testability and production readiness across the team You takeresponsibility for end-to-end pipeline quality, from input dataintegrity through forecast output to the performance of live orderrecommendations, including regular backtesting and monitoring You shipproduction-quality work with well-tested, readable and thoroughlyreviewed code, using agentic AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code,Cursor) as part of your daily workflow You work closely withengineering, product, sales and customer operations and translateoperational findings from store level into product improvementsProfile You hold an MSc or PhD in a quantitative field such asstatistics, mathematics, physics, operations research or computerscience You have built systems that make decisions under uncertaintywith real operational consequences, not just research prototypes Yourbackground is in at least one of probabilistic forecasting, stochasticinventory simulation or operations research, with solid workingknowledge across the others You are deeply familiar withdistributional and probabilistic forecasting methods (e.g. quantileregression, LGBM with distributional output, GAMLSS-type models,conformal prediction) You have a solid grounding in stochasticinventory theory, newsvendor models, related ordering policies andservice level optimisation You write production-grade Python and SQLon large, messy, real-world data and have experience with ML modelevaluation and monitoring in production settings You are comfortableworking with GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Vertex AI) and dbt, and you arefamiliar with workflow orchestration (Airflow or Cloud Composer), Git,containerisation and CI/CD You use agentic AI coding tools (ClaudeCode, Cursor or similar) with daily fluency You translate complexmathematical reasoning into decisions that product teams andnon-technical colleagues can act on You ideally bring experience fromsupply chain optimisation, demand planning or retail, ideally combinedwith startup or scale-up experience You are fluent in English; Germanis not required Benefits You receive an attractive compensationpackage including equity participation (VSOP) Home-Officepossibilities 30 vacation days You receive individual relocationsupport if you are moving to Berlin Kontakt Further details apart fromthe job description as well as information about the company areavailable during the application process.
