The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the configuration, installation, maintenance, and support of Databases within a defined technology/capability discipline, as well as advanced management including performance and application tuning. The role will ensure the implementation and support of customer systems to a level in proportion of your experience and within ITIL framework.

What You’ll Do:

You will be accountable to:

  • Maintain and support Microsoft SQL Server environments, including installation, configuration, patching and version upgrades.
  • Ensure the ongoing operation of SQL Server databases across development, testing and production environments.
  • Monitor database performance, availability and capacity, identifying and addressing issues before they impact users.
  • Analyse and optimise database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies and configuration improvements.
  • Implement and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes, including testing of recovery procedures.
  • Plan and implement database changes, releases and upgrades in accordance with change management processes.
  • Improve operational efficiency by developing and maintaining scripts to automate routine administration tasks.
  • Investigate and resolve database incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures where appropriate.
  • Work closely with application, infrastructure and project teams to support solution delivery and ensure database requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, operational procedures and database standards to support ongoing service delivery.
  • Administer SQL Server environments across Development, Test, UAT and Production
  • Provide on-call support for critical environments as part of a 24x7 on-call roster.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
  • Strong T-SQL skills, including performance tuning and query optimisation.
  • Experience with SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery technologies.
  • Solid understanding of database security, backup and recovery, and capacity planning.
  • Experience planning and implementing SQL Server upgrades, patches and migrations.
  • Experience analysing and resolving database-related application performance issues.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis.
  • Experience automating administrative tasks using PowerShell or similar scripting tools.
  • Familiarity with Azure SQL and hybrid database environments.
  • Sound understanding of ITIL processes, particularly incident, problem and change management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical teams and provide technical guidance where required.
