Role Purpose
You will own the database layer that sits at the heart of our platform. This is not a support role; it is an ownership role. You will work closely with backend engineers and platform teams to ensure our PostgreSQL environments are performant, reliable, and ready to scale with a business that is growing fast.
Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain complex database systems using PostgreSQL.
• Optimize database performance, ensuring efficient queries and overall system stability.
• Develop and implement database architecture, schemas, partitions and indexing strategies to support application
requirements.
• Create and manage stored procedures, functions, and triggers to handle business logic.
• Administer and maintain PostgreSQL servers, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis for performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with developers and system architects to design scalable database solutions.
• Write and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including ER diagrams and schema descriptions.
• Implement data security best practices to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance.
• Participate in code reviews and mentor team members on database best practices.
• Own business logic that lives inside the database itself, rather than in a separate application layer.
Requirements:
• 5+ years of professional experience in database development and administration with PostgreSQL.
• Excellent knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, syntax, functions, custom operators and advanced features.
• Proven experience in designing and optimizing complex database schemas and queries.
• Strong expertise in writing and managing stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
• Experience in administering PostgreSQL servers, including backups, replication, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in monitoring and troubleshooting database performance using tools like pg_stat_statements or similar.
• Understanding of database security principles and data protection strategies.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems like git for database code deployment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Practical experience with table partitioning strategies and the ongoing operational work they require (e.g.lifecycle management of partitions).
• Experience writing dynamically constructed queries safely, with awareness of the associated injection risks and mitigation techniques.
