Summary
We are seeking a highly
skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer – Signalling to join our
dynamic railway engineering team. This role is pivotal in shaping the
safety, reliability, and efficiency of modern railway signalling
systems. The successful candidate will lead complex signalling design
projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring full compliance with
national and international standards such as EN 50128, IEC 61508, and
relevant railway-specific regulations. You will be responsible for
developing detailed interlocking logic, Automatic Train Supervision
(ATS) systems, and wayside signalling layouts, while also supporting
system integration, testing, and on-site commissioning. Your expertise
will directly influence the performance and safety of critical rail
infrastructure, contributing to the seamless operation of high-density
rail networks. This position demands a deep technical understanding,
leadership in design reviews, and the ability to mentor junior engineers
while collaborating with cross-functional teams across engineering,
procurement, and operations.
---
Responsibilities
- Independently lead and manage end-to-end signalling design activities for large-scale railway projects.
- Prepare detailed signalling designs including interlocking logic, ATS system architecture, and wayside equipment layouts.
- Develop
and maintain critical design documentation such as control tables,
track plans, cable routing plans, and system interface diagrams.
- Conduct
thorough reviews of vendor drawings, technical specifications, and
compliance documents to ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Support
site installation teams with technical guidance, resolve design-related
issues, and participate in testing and commissioning (T&C)
activities.
- Lead and contribute to design reviews, hazard
analyses (HAZOP, FMEA), and safety assessments to ensure system
integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with project managers, system engineers, and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of design milestones.
- Ensure
all design outputs adhere to applicable industry standards, including
but not limited to EN 50128, IEC 61508, UIC, and national railway safety
codes.
- Mentor and guide junior design engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum
of 12 years of progressive experience in railway signalling design,
with at least 5 years in a senior or lead design capacity.
- Proven
expertise in designing and delivering interlocking systems (e.g., ETCS
Level 2, computer-based interlockings), ATS, and wayside signalling
solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of control tables, track circuit logic, signal aspects, and system integration principles.
- Proficiency
in industry-standard design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or
specialized signalling design software (e.g., RailSys, SICAS, or
similar).
- Strong understanding of railway safety standards and certification processes (e.g., SIL 2/SIL 4, functional safety).
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical documentation and lead design review sessions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel to project sites for commissioning and troubleshooting support as required.
- Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., metro, high-speed rail, freight corridors) is highly desirable.
