Senior Designer
Description
Design Department: Senior Designer
As a Senior Designer at Squanch Games, you’ll be in charge of turning design concepts into high-quality gameplay experiences. You love thinking about how to bring great gameplay and character-driven narrative to life. You’ll work on levels at all points of their creation: paper maps, white box layouts, gameplay spaces, playtesting and iteration, and final polish. Building creative new experiences is extremely important to you as well as making games that are impactful and funny.
What You'll Do:
- Own large sections of the game while assisting other designers.
- Use UE4 to build out well designed and functional white box layouts that also have great compositions, pacing, flow, and strong aesthetics.
- Mentor: As a senior, mentoring is a very important part of Squanch. We thrive with folks who are always willing to mentor and assist team members.
- Create immersive gameplay scenarios that support and enhance the core mechanics of the game.
- Work closely with other teams to deliver content that meets each discipline's goals and creates a memorable experience.
- Use UE5 Blueprints to script advanced level functionality.
- Address bugs and gameplay issues to assure a stable and polished product.
- Be collaborative and humble: You know that the best work comes from a team who trust and respect each other. You strive to collaborate with others and don’t care whose ideas win. Best ideas win.
- Play to your strengths and not be afraid to admit your weaknesses.
What We're Looking For:
- Credit on one or more published titles is required.
- Shipped console title is a plus!
- Unreal Engine 4/5 experience preferable, or extensive experience in another engine (Unity, Godot, etc.)
- Advanced knowledge and experience with level editing tools and scripting (Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar editors).
- Confidence in creating narrative-driven experiences. Bonus if you've done things to make people laugh!
- Tech-friendly: Regardless of whether your tech background includes programming, scripting, or working in engine editors, we need folks who are flexible and willing to dive in and make changes when necessary. No paper-only designers, please.
- Experience mentoring and guiding levels from blockout to ship.
- An independent spirit excited to explore new ideas and champion innovative designs.
- Very good interpersonal skills including strong communication skills and receptiveness to feedback.
