Senior Developer

ADP is looking for a Senior Developer to join our Payroll Innovation Team!

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using the Spring Boot ecosystem. This role emphasizes modern, AI-assisted development workflows — leveraging tools like GitHub Copilot to accelerate coding, testing, and documentation while maintaining high engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot (Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, Spring Cloud).
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code following SOLID principles and established design patterns.
• Collaborate with product, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver features end-to-end.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and mentor junior developers on AI-assisted best practices.
• Ensure application performance, security, and scalability through profiling, monitoring, and observability tools.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and contract tests (JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers).

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience with Java (11/17+) and the Spring Boot ecosystem.
• Strong understanding of REST API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and ORM frameworks (JPA/Hibernate).
• Familiarity with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and caching (Redis).
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins), and containerization (Docker).
• Solid understanding of unit/integration testing and TDD practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Spring Cloud, API gateways, or event-driven architectures.
• Exposure to Kubernetes and cloud-native deployment patterns.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) in a professional development workflow.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering or custom AI agent/tooling configuration for developer workflows.
• Knowledge of security best practices (OAuth2/JWT, OWASP).
