About the Role:

Join us in building the Digital Platform shaping how staff and students experience Curtin. Our Digital Experience Platform team is behind AIDA; Curtin's growing ecosystem of AI assistants built on AWS Bedrock. We're looking for a Senior Developer with a platform mindset — someone who thinks in reusable components and long-term architecture rather than one-off fixes, who's genuinely curious about applied GenAI, and who's comfortable experimenting, iterating and adapting as the technology and the University's needs evolve.

As Senior Developer, you'll take a technical lead role across development and support of University applications and interfaces, utilising the latest technologies and cloud native services to drive innovative use cases forward. You will also mentor the wider development team and act as a trusted technical voice for stakeholders across the University.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Provide technical leadership across the design, development, testing, implementation and support of AI, enterprise search and digital platform solutions.
  • Build scalable multi-agent workflows and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using AWS Bedrock and related cloud-native services.
  • Evaluate foundation models, optimise prompts and apply model selection techniques to balance performance, quality and cost.
  • Embed AI governance, security and responsible use practices through content filtering, PII masking and anti-injection safeguards.
  • Drive DevOps and MLOps practices, including infrastructure provisioning, monitoring system health, model latency and token spend.
  • Translate business requirements into practical solution designs, testing approaches and technical documentation.
  • Mentor team members and communicate effectively with stakeholders to align expectations, timeframes and delivery outcomes.
Selection Criteria:
  • A relevant degree with extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training.
  • Extensive experience in relevant programming languages, enterprise platforms, tools and technologies, with the ability to mentor and develop team members.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging agentic frameworks, Infrastructure as Code methodologies and cloud-native development practices.
  • Strong organisational skills and understanding of project management methodologies, Agile delivery, tools and techniques.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of client focus and professional stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to contribute to practical business outcomes.
  • A platform mindset, with the ability to design reusable components, scalable architecture and maintainable long-term solutions.
  • Comfortable working across ambiguity, experimentation and shifting priorities in a fast-evolving technology landscape.
Given the platforms you'll be working on, we'd love to see:
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Bedrock and LLM operations — working independently across areas such as RAG pipeline design, vector stores/knowledge bases, Bedrock Agents, and monitoring or optimising model performance and cost.
  • Proven experience building autonomous agents
  • Track record of optimising cost and building observability tools to manage enterprise costs
Role Requirements:
  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
  2. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
