We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer (Full Stack/Cloud) to serve as a senior technical contributor responsible for designing, developing, and supporting scalable full-stack applications and serverless cloud solutions, and essentially providing reliable services for State of Colorado residents.

This role requires deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, React and/or Angular, Node.js/NestJS, REST APIs, SQL Server, and AWS. The Senior Developer will work across the full application lifecycle and will be expected to make sound architectural decisions, lead complex technical initiatives, mentor other developers, and establish development standards and best practices.

To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable operating in a modern serverless environment and troubleshooting complex issues spanning the frontend, backend, database, APIs, and AWS infrastructure. This role offers an opportunity to take full ownership of complex technical implementations, architectural decisions, and the continuous evolution of serverless AWS architecture. In this role, you will independently troubleshoot issues across full-stack technologies—including React/Angular, Node/NestJS, SQL Server, and APIs—while establishing robust development patterns to enhance application reliability, security, and performance. Beyond technical execution, you will provide leadership by mentoring developers, leading code reviews and design discussions, proactively identifying risks, and balancing delivery deadlines with long-term engineering quality and technical debt.

Essential Duties:

Software Development
  • Design and implement scalable, maintainable full-stack applications.

  • Develop backend services using Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript, Fastify, TypeORM, and REST APIs.

  • Develop modern frontend applications using React and/or Angular with TypeScript.

  • Design effective API contracts and maintain Swagger/OpenAPI documentation.

  • Identify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability issues.

AWS & Cloud Architecture

  • Architect solutions using AWS.

  • Establish appropriate patterns for Lambda-based services, API routing, authentication, logging, monitoring, and error handling.

  • Design scheduled workloads using AWS Scheduler.

  • Contribute to the implementation of AWS Step Functions as the platform evolves.

  • Evaluate cloud architecture decisions for security, scalability, reliability, performance, and cost.

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across AWS services and application components.

  • Establish effective application logging, monitoring, and observability practices.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership for development initiatives and complex projects.

  • Establish and enforce development standards and best practices.

  • Conduct thorough code reviews focused on correctness, maintainability, security, performance, and architecture.

  • Identify technical debt and help prioritize remediation efforts.

  • Help establish standards for testing, API design, frontend architecture, AWS usage, and application observability.

  • Work closely with product owners, architects, QA, DevOps/cloud engineers, and other stakeholders.

Testing & Quality

  • Establish effective testing strategies across frontend and backend applications.

  • Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using Jest and appropriate testing frameworks.

  • Ensure new features are appropriately tested before release.

  • Identify gaps in test coverage and improve automated testing practices.

  • Troubleshoot defects and production incidents through systematic root-cause analysis.
