Senior Developer
Description
Senior .NET Developer
Are you a seasoned developer who secretly also wants to be (or is!) a Business Analyst?
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on .NET developer who enjoys understanding how businesses work just as much as writing great software.
We're not looking for a Business Analyst. We're looking for a great developer who enjoys thinking like one.
SaaSplications is a small, boutique cloud ERP vendor with a proprietary development platform called Genie, built on .NET, that makes the object-oriented dream of extensive design pattern and code reuse a reality.
Our platform allows us to build sophisticated business applications quickly, based on solid design, without many of the constraints imposed by conventional development platforms.
Who we're looking for
Ideally, you'll have many years of software development experience across a wide range of business domains, preferably including ERP, and at least a few years of solid C#/.NET experience.
WPF/XAML, JavaScript/HTML and mobile development experience would all be highly regarded.
This is very much a software development role. You'll be designing, writing, improving, testing and deploying code. But we want someone who also enjoys understanding the business problems that code is intended to solve.
We work closely with customers across many different industries, often becoming an extension of their own teams. We want developers who enjoy understanding how businesses operate, identifying opportunities for improvement and helping customers work out what they really need.
Design Patterns and Reusable Components
Our development platform is called the ‘Genie’. It genuinely provides an extensible set of reusable components, both server and multiple client technologies, that reduce coding by orders of magnitude, while allowing uninhibited UX and features.
We believe that good object-oriented design and thoughtful reuse produce better software with less code to maintain.
We're looking for someone who is genuinely interested in learning how to make the most of our platform, even when that means challenging development habits built up over many years.
You'll also have opportunities to contribute to the evolution of Genie itself.
If you enjoy finding elegant solutions that eliminate code rather than simply writing more of it, you'll probably enjoy working with us.
Experience we particularly value
We're especially interested in developers who have looked at an existing codebase, recognised opportunities to improve its architecture and taken the initiative to do something about it.
Perhaps you've encountered multiple implementations of essentially the same functionality and, rather than adding another variation, reworked the underlying design so the functionality could be shared.
Or you've improved an existing framework or component so that future development becomes simpler, more consistent and easier to maintain.
We'd love to hear about examples where you've done this, particularly where it required rethinking an established approach rather than simply refactoring a few methods.
We're interested not just in the software you've built, but in the code you've made unnecessary.
How we work
We're a small company using a pragmatic, agile approach to development.
Customers don't always know exactly what they want until they see something working. Requirements evolve, gaps emerge and sometimes a better solution becomes obvious once people start using the software.
We see this as a normal part of developing good business systems.
We're looking for someone who enjoys participating in that process — questioning requirements, anticipating problems, suggesting alternatives and contributing ideas rather than simply implementing specifications.
Our development team has worked together for more than 10 years. We collaborate closely, review each other's work and aren't afraid to challenge a design or suggest a different approach. We value people who welcome that discussion and are just as comfortable reconsidering their own ideas as questioning someone else's.
We also believe in being pragmatic about design. Not every proposed change proceeds, so we balance upfront analysis with collaborative review, prototyping and learning from what we build.
What you'll be doing
As a small company, things move pretty quickly.
You might find yourself discussing a business problem directly with a customer, designing a solution including the UX, extending existing functionality, writing code, testing and deploying.
All within a couple of hours, before lunch.
Well, sometimes.
You'll work across a wide variety of businesses and processes, often developing relationships where customers value your understanding of their operations as much as your technical skills.
We're also enthusiastic about using AI tools to improve how we design, develop and maintain our software.
Working with us
We all work from home and meet frequently online for collaborative design, development and problem-solving sessions.
There's plenty of independence, but you're never working in isolation. We enjoy discussing ideas, sharing knowledge and finding better ways of doing things.
If you're an experienced developer who enjoys variety, likes solving real business problems, appreciates thoughtful design and believes software development should be a collaborative and creative process, we'd love to hear from you.
If this resonates with you — and maybe even gives you that gut feeling of hope that a development job can still be fun and rewarding — let us know
