Senior DevOps Engineer

Summary

Senior DevOps Engineer builds and maintains scalable AWS infrastructure, automates CI/CD with GitLab, and enforces security best practices for a startup securing AI workflows.

AI is being run everywhere, by humans and agents. The AI Governance and Control (AIGC) platform understands user / agent intent and data context in real time, giving security teams visibility and control across every tool and workflow so companies can move faster with AI while minimizing risk.

We operate in one of the fastest‑moving spaces in tech: the emerging intersection of AI and cybersecurity. It is still being defined, and we are among the first to build natively for it – protecting sensitive data in real time, at the endpoint, with minimal friction for the teams using it. Enterprises receive full visibility and control. Their people innovate without guardrails slowing them down.

Named to the Rising in Cyber 2026 list, Harmonic is gaining serious recognition and traction. We are led by deep cybersecurity expertise and backed by investors who know the space: N47, Ten Eleven Ventures, and In‑Q‑Tel.

How We Work: AI‑First by Design

Harmonic exists to help enterprises adopt AI safely and at scale. We hold ourselves to the same standard. Everyone at Harmonic actively uses AI tools to do their best work, from research and writing to building processes and automating workflows. We expect every new hire to bring curiosity about AI and a willingness to use it to work smarter, faster, and more creatively. For some roles, that means tinkering and staying open to new tools. For others, it means building entirely new systems with AI at the core. We will be clear about what we expect for each role, and we will give you the tools and support to get there.

About The Team

We sell security to some of the most demanding enterprise security teams in the world, and we have held ourselves to that bar from day one. Our engineers have built a platform architecture we are genuinely proud of – strong foundations across authentication, data isolation, and secrets handling – but it was built by generalist engineers who split their time across security and everything else on the roadmap. It is good precisely because good engineers cared about it, not because it had a specialist behind it. Now we want to bring in someone whose full‑time focus is security architecture, to take that foundation and push it further than a generalist team has the bandwidth to.

This isn't an audit or compliance function, and it is not a rescue mission. It is an engineering one, building on top of something solid rather than starting from zero.

About The Role

The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, building and maintaining the highly scalable infrastructure that powers our applications. This role is a blend of automation, infrastructure design and CI/CD pipeline development.

What You’ll Do

  • Your primary focus is the automation and standardisation of our cloud infrastructure and deployment processes.
  • Develop reusable modules to enforce consistency and best practices across all environments.
  • Design and implement highly available and fault‑tolerant architectures on AWS using multiple AZs and regions.
  • Build, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD. Manage and configure GitLab Runners (specifically on Docker or AWS EC2/ECS) for scalable and efficient job execution, ensuring fast feedback loops for developers.

What Success Looks Like

  • You evangelise and implement DevOps best practices, including shift‑left security, monitoring, alerting and logging.
  • The platform provides an outstanding experience with minimal friction for both the development and operations teams, allowing everyone to do their best work.
  • Highly available, well‑maintained platform backed by repeatable processes that allow us to meet and exceed the highest standards for security and resilience.

What You Bring

  • Experience with infrastructure as code tooling (preferably Terraform/OpenTofu).
  • Experience with cloud services (preferably AWS).
  • Understanding of networking and web applications.
  • Knowledge of Docker and container orchestration platforms.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix based operating systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (GitLab, GitHub, etc.).
  • Experience troubleshooting issues with infrastructure and web applications.
  • Proficient in one or more scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.).
  • Experience with monitoring and log management tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch, etc.).
  • Experience working within a fast‑moving software development organisation.

You Might Be a Fit if You

  • Have a solid understanding of development processes; you likely started as a developer before moving into DevOps and identify as “more Dev than Ops.”
  • Love the idea of building and maintaining resilient, modern infrastructure designed to handle massive, high‑concurrency workloads.
  • Thrive in fast‑paced startup environments where ambiguity is common and you have the agency to solve it.
  • See AI as a fundamental tool to help you architect, deploy, and monitor systems smarter, faster, and better.
  • Actively use AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate your work, from writing IaC and debugging pipelines to researching and prototyping new architecture.
  • Stay current on how AI is changing the DevOps and SRE domains, with strong opinions on where it adds value and where it introduces risk.
  • Refuse to default to the infrastructure playbook you've been running for the last decade – instead, you look for ways to automate the mundane and rethink legacy workflows.
  • Choose to spend your energy on the complex engineering problems that actually require your expertise, rather than manual, repetitive tasks.
