Senior DevOps Engineer (Integration Specialist)

Role Description As part of a small DevOps team, the successful candidate will also contribute to broader DevOps, platform support, automation and troubleshooting responsibilities when required. The candidate must be comfortable working in a highly pressured environment, taking ownership, managing competing priorities and continually developing their skills through selflearning.
Core Outputs
- Investigate vendor and customer platforms and comparable systems and identify supported methods of obtaining the required data.
- Develop and maintain commercial-grade API clients, collectors, webhook receivers, protocol adapters and scheduled integrations.
- Transform, validate, map, normalise and store source data in internal or external monitoring platforms or approved staging and observability platforms such as SQLite, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, TimescaleDB, MongoDB or Graylog etc.
- Develop queries, dashboards, variables, alerts and integration-health views that demonstrate data availability and operational value.
- Implement secure authentication, secrets handling, pagination, rate-limit handling, timeouts, retries, backoff, deduplication, logging and health checks.
- Containerise, deploy, schedule, monitor and troubleshoot integration components using Linux, Docker and approved CI/CD processes.
- Produce interface documentation, sample payloads, field mappings, data dictionaries, deployment instructions and operational runbooks.
- Prepare and submit detailed internal user stories and acceptance criteria once source access, data quality and field mappings have been proven.
- Deliver work to agreed quality, standards, scope and estimates and contribute to reusable integration patterns and technical standards.
- Mentor Junior DevOps Engineers and support broader DevOps, automation, platform implementation and incident-resolution activities when required.
- Grade 12
- Relevant ICT, software development, data engineering or similar qualification, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years' relevant software, integration or DevOps experience, including at least 3 years building and supporting production integrations and environments
- Strong Node.js/Python/TypeScript development experience for API clients, data transformation and automation
- Strong hands-on experience consuming REST APIs and working with JSON, webhooks, polling, pagination and rate limits
- Experience with secure integration access patterns, including OAuth 2.0, API tokens, JWT, certificates and secrets management
- Strong SQL/NoSQL and relational/non-relational data-modelling experience using MariaDB/MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Elasticsearch, TimescaleDB or MongoDB
- Experience extracting, validating, mapping, transforming and normalising data from external systems
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, including Bash or equivalent shell scripting, Docker and Docker Compose
- Git and CI/CD pipeline experience
- Understanding of reliable integration patterns, including timeouts, retries, backoff, idempotency or deduplication, logging and health checks
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar vendor platforms and independently prove a supported route to the required data
- Ability to create clear interface documentation, field mappings, runbooks, technical user stories and acceptance criteria
- Willingness and ability to contribute to broader DevOps and platform-support responsibilities when required
- Experience with protocols and formats such as SNMP, syslog, SFTP, WebSockets, MQTT, JSON, XML and CSV
- VueJS / React / Angular or similar experience • Understanding or relevant experience with Grafana
- Experience with Python frameworks and libraries such as FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, httpx or requests
- Infrastructure-automation and container-orchestration experience
- Networking knowledge, including DNS, routing, firewalls, proxies, TLS, certificates, API gateways or reverse proxies
