Your Role:

This is not your traditional DevOps role. As a DevOps Engineer, you will be involved in complex problem‑solving, creating and improving procedures and processes, and ensuring the platform meets the security, capacity, performance, and reliability requirements of the organisation. You will be a systems engineer at heart and more than comfortable working with automation tooling to deliver infrastructure solutions at scale.

About You

As an experienced DevOps Engineer you will have proven experience supporting complex transactional systems with the ability to tune and test all facets of the request pipeline. You will be a systems engineer at heart and more than comfortable working with automation tooling to deliver infrastructure solutions at scale.

About the Role

As the DevOps Engineer, you will be a key contributor in the DevOps team. You will share the responsibility for the overall health, performance, and durability of Harvey Norman’s operational systems.

You Will Also:

• Guide and contribute to the long‑term evolution of the eCommerce platform through research, experimentation, and implementation of emerging technologies
• Deploy and manage Azure infrastructure resources using ARM templates
• Be actively involved in and drive platform design and deployment activities
• Maintain and improve Puppet manifests, modules, and Hiera data to automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration across dev, test, production, and DR environments
• Contribute to the ongoing migration of the Puppet codebase to current syntax and best practices
• Manage configuration for server roles including Magento app servers, admin nodes, database servers, load balancers, and caching layers
• Support day‑to‑day operations of the Magento e‑commerce platform on Microsoft Azure, including deployments, environment provisioning, and platform upgrades
• Build and set up new environments and tools within the Azure ecosystem
• Optimise infrastructure and perform scaling based on anticipated traffic and load
• Apply patches and manage security tooling to keep systems safe against cyber security threats
• Support and improve CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments
• Perform database syncs between staging and production environments
• Identify and troubleshoot technical problems and develop updates to resolve them
• Assisting in incidents and resolving issues pragmatically
• Report regularly to the Team Lead

What You Need:

As an experienced DevOps Engineer you will have proven experience supporting complex transactional systems with the ability to tune and test all facets of the request pipeline.

You Will Also Have:

• Proven commercial experience implementing and maintaining Linux systems with best practice DevOps tooling and approaches
• Excellent understanding of CI/CD practices and the ability to develop and support the pipelines that deliver them
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and iterative delivery processes
• Strong expertise across system administration and infrastructure automation
• A passion for Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps practices in a digital e\-commerce environment
• Good collaboration and communication skills - able to work effectively in a remote, cross‑time‑zone team
• Puppet - authoring and maintaining manifests, modules, and Hiera data hierarchies (strong preference; equivalent experience with Ansible, Chef, or Salt considered)
• Microsoft Azure - Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Azure Key Vault, Azure CLI and ARM template deployments
• Azure DevOps - source control, pipelines, and build agent management
• Nginx - web server configuration, virtual hosts, and SSL termination
• PHP‑FPM - process pool configuration and performance tuning
• Bash scripting - automation, task scheduling, and system maintenance scripts
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across Linux systems and networked services

Experience with any of the following will be looked at favourably

• Magento (Adobe e‑Commerce) or similar large‑scale e‑Commerce platform
• Percona MySQL, MySQL, or MariaDB database administration
• HAProxy load balancer configuration and management
• Varnish cache configuration and tuning
• Elasticsearch cluster operations
• RabbitMQ message broker configuration and monitoring
• Prometheus and Grafana monitoring stack
• New Relic application performance monitoring (APM)
• Centralised log management via rsyslog or similar
• High availability patterns - DRBD disk replication and NFS shared storage
• Bind DNS management
