Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,400 individuals every day across ten campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director of Facilities Operations is responsible for the day-to-day management of facility support operations for our shelters, service centers, and administration offices of our homeless services departments. The Senior Director provides leadership and operational oversight for all environmental services to include beautification initiatives across the organization, fleet management, and culinary operations. This position ensures that all facilities are clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming for residents, guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners. Serve as a critical operational partner to the Vice President of Facilities by providing support in the planning, implementation, and oversight of departmental initiatives; leading day-to-day facility operations; monitoring operational performance; managing special projects; developing and implementing strategic initiatives; preparing budgets and operational reports; ensuring organizational compliance; coordinating cross-functional efforts; and acting on behalf of the Vice President as delegated to ensure continuity of operations and the successful execution of Roof Above's facilities strategy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Culinary Oversight
- Supervise the Director of Culinary Services.
- Ensure safe, high-quality food service and a positive culinary experience for guests and volunteers.
- Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality.
- House Cleaning Operations
- Supervise Facility Maintenance Supervisor (Custodial & Groundskeeping)
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards at our homeless services sites.
- Monitor quality assurance.
- Maintain grounds and beautification of homeless services properties.
- Leadership
- Provide leadership for Custodial & Groundskeeping and Culinary departments.
- Manage Vendor Contracts for assigned responsibilities.
- Develop daily operational plans.
- Establish departmental objectives.
- Recruit, coach, and evaluate team.
- Promote employee development.
- Ensure volunteers supporting team members have a great and welcoming environment.
- Develop opportunities for those we serve to engage in our culinary and housekeeping services in a way that promotes hope and opportunity.
- Oversee corrective actions resulting from inspections, audits, or incidents.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and workplace safety policies.
- Collaborate with program teammates on guest issues and strategies for improving guests’ experience within Roof Above facilities.
- Serve as escalation point for Facilities & Kitchen staff when guest issues arise, being a voice to resolve conflict and create an action plan to address issue.
- Serve as part of Facilities leadership team to meet program goals and objectives.
- Critical operational partner to the Vice President of Facilities VP of Facilities.
- Fleet Management
- Utilize fleet management software to monitor vehicle utilization, schedule and track preventive maintenance and repairs, registration renewals, maintain accurate fleet records, and analyze operational data to maximize fleet performance, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Manage and monitor all fleet-related expenditures by ensuring accurate expense coding, budget oversight, invoice review, and financial tracking to support fiscal accountability, cost control, and effective resource allocation.
- Respond promptly to and resolve organizational fleet-related concerns and operational issues by collaborating with internal stakeholders, drivers, vendors, and service providers to ensure timely, effective, and customer-focused solutions while minimizing operational disruptions.
