What is needed for this job as our Senior Director of Group Exercise and Community Building:

• Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion, or a related field required
• Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in group exercise or health & wellness leadership, preferably in a YMCA or multi-site organization
• Demonstrated experience leading large, diverse teams across multiple locations
• Nationally recognized group exercise or fitness certification required (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM)
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to manage complex operations and multiple priorities
• Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and analyzing financial performance

The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Senior Director of Group Exercise and Community Building:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive, association-wide group exercise strategy aligned with YMCA goals and community needs
• Ensure consistent program standards, quality, and brand alignment across all branches
• Evaluate trends in group exercise and introduce innovative, evidence-based programs to enhance member engagement and retention
• Lead the integration of inclusive and accessible group exercise offerings for diverse populations and abilities
• Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate group exercise leadership staff, including branch-level coordinators and instructors
• Establish instructor training pathways, certification standards, and continuing education opportunities
• Support succession planning and leadership development within the department
• Establish and monitor program metrics
• Collaborate with branch leadership to ensure effective scheduling, staffing, and space utilization
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and risk management practices related to group exercise
• Ensure compliance with YMCA guidelines, safety standards, and certification requirements
• Develop and manage the association-wide group exercise budget
• Monitor expenses and revenue opportunities, including specialty classes, partnerships, and sponsorships
• Support financial sustainability through data-informed decision-making and resource allocation
• Partner with branch executives, wellness leaders, and marketing teams to promote group exercise programs and increase participation.
• Support community outreach initiatives that expand access to healthy living opportunities
