Senior Director Software Engineering

Salary: $162,682 - 195,918 per year

Requirements:

• We look for 10–15+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5+ years leading teams and managers.
• We need a proven track record of delivering dependable production systems at scale.
• We require strong experience with distributed systems and full-stack architecture, including APIs, backend services, and UI.
• We prefer experience building and scaling systems in cloud environments, especially AWS.
• We value a hands-on leadership style with the ability to contribute to architecture, debugging, and critical technical decisions.
• We look for experience in high-growth or scaling environments, with success building teams and systems through change.
• We require strong experience with QA, release management, and progressive deployment methods such as shadow mode and canary releases.
• We expect experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability across distributed systems.
• We prefer experience partnering with data science teams to productionize machine learning models.
• We value comfort using AI-assisted or agentic development tools to improve productivity and reduce errors.
• We need strong communication skills and the ability to align cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience in financial services, lending, or fraud detection is a plus.
• A Bachelors or Masters degree is preferred.
• We require in-person attendance and the ability to commute to our San Diego, CA office daily.

Responsibilities:

• We own engineering delivery, system reliability, and production outcomes across APIs, UI, and real-time decisioning systems.
• We establish and lead our QA and release approach, including automated testing, regression coverage, and safe deployment practices.
• We implement real-time monitoring, alerting, and observability across the stack to detect and address issues before they affect customers.
• We guide architecture across backend and frontend systems to ensure scalability, performance, and a consistent user experience.
• We partner with Data Science to productionize machine learning models in real-time environments.
• We work hands-on on system design, debugging, and urgent production issues.
• We lead and grow our engineering team, setting high standards for execution, code quality, and accountability.
• We build strong engineering practices across CI/CD, incident response, and operational excellence.
• We use modern AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, testing rigor, and engineering quality.
• We collaborate with Product and Customer teams to support smooth deployments and high-quality integrations.
• We own the technical roadmap and execute against company priorities.
• We ensure our systems meet security, compliance, and data governance requirements in a regulated financial environment.

This is a high-visibility senior leadership role focused on building and scaling the engineering backbone behind our core products. This is an in-person position based in San Diego, CA 92101, and we will work closely with executive leadership, Data Science, Product, and Customer teams during a critical growth phase.
