Senior Drainage Engineer - Airside

Summary
Designs airfield drainage systems, models stormwater flow, and ensures compliance with aviation standards using tools like HEC-RAS and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of airfield drainage systems to ensure compliance with international aviation standards, optimize stormwater management, and protect the structural integrity of runways, taxiways, and aprons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop surface and subsurface drainage systems for airport runways, taxiways, aprons, and ancillary facilities.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to simulate rainfall events, stormwater flow, and system capacity using tools such as HEC-RAS, InfoDrainage, or SWMM.
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and BOQs in compliance with ICAO, FAA, EASA, and local authority requirements.
- Perform site inspections and drainage assessments for new and existing airfields.
- Coordinate with airfield pavement, geotechnical, and utility engineers to ensure integrated design.
- Review contractor submittals and provide technical support during construction phases.
- Prepare drainage reports, design justifications, and presentation materials for client and regulatory review.
- Ensure sustainability and resilience principles are embedded in all drainage solutions.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in drainage or stormwater engineering, with at least 5 years focused on airfield or transportation infrastructure design.
- Strong understanding of aviation regulations and airport drainage design principles.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoWorks, or equivalent software.
- Knowledge of international design standards (ICAO Annex 14, FAA AC 150/5320-5D, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certification in stormwater management or sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) is desirable.
