- Maintain accurate electrical one-line diagrams, distribution-system documentation, equipment data, breaker settings, panel schedules, and electrical infrastructure records as system configurations change.
- Develop and maintain long-term electrical infrastructure strategies addressing capacity, reliability, redundancy, equipment condition, lifecycle replacement, spare parts, and business-continuity risks.
- Evaluate electrical-system reliability, identify single points of failure and recommend infrastructure improvements, redundancy, maintenance strategies, or capital projects to reduce production and business risk.
- Coordinate with electric utilities, engineering consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturers, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), HSE, Facilities, and manufacturing engineering on electrical infrastructure projects and system modifications.
Electrical Safety & Compliance
- Provide technical leadership for electrical safety and ensure electrical infrastructure complies with applicable NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, OSHA, IEEE, ICC, FM Global, Bosch, state, and local requirements.
- Support site LOES with the site's arc-flash program, including incident-energy studies, equipment labeling, electrical-system model updates, PPE requirements, and updates following significant system modifications.
- Provide engineering oversight for electrical shutdowns, switching operations, electrical LOTO, energized troubleshooting, and restoration of power to minimize personnel and operational risk.
- Support electrical safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions and provide technical guidance regarding safe electrical work practices.
Electrical Reliability & Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for electrical distribution equipment, including substations, transformers, switchgear, breakers, protective relays, ATS equipment, generators, and UPS systems.
- Review annual infrared/thermal imaging surveys of electrical systems, identify risks, and prioritize corrective actions.
- Coordinate condition-based maintenance programs including transformer oil analysis and dissolved gas analysis (DGA), breaker inspection and testing, protective-relay testing, secondary injection testing, switchgear maintenance, lubrication, and exercising.
- Analyze equipment failures, electrical disturbances, nuisance trips, and power-quality events; lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain a critical electrical spare-parts strategy and inventory based on equipment reliability, lead time, failure consequence, and production risk.
Capital Projects & Engineering
- Lead planning, design, estimating, procurement, construction, and commissioning of electrical infrastructure and facilities capital projects.
- Develop electrical scopes of work, technical specifications, RFQs, cost estimates, and bid evaluations in coordination with Purchasing.
- Review engineering drawings, one-lines, calculations, equipment submittals, and contractor designs for compliance with site standards and applicable codes.
- Coordinate contractors and engineering consultants with focus on safety, technical quality, cost, schedule, and system reliability.
- Plan and coordinate electrical outages, system switching, construction phasing, and production disruptions.
- Perform construction inspections and recommend design modifications when field conditions warrant.
- Lead commissioning and acceptance of new or modified electrical systems, including verification of testing, protection settings, equipment documentation, and as-built drawings prior to turnover.
- Maintain project records including budgets, contracts, change orders, drawings, specifications, meeting records, invoices, purchase orders, and commissioning documentation.
- Lead final project walk-through, punch-list resolution, customer acceptance, and turnover to operations and maintenance.
