Senior Electrical Engineer - Oil, Gas & Chemical
Posted Updated
The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead electrical design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments throughout the oil, gas, refining, midstream, chemical, renewable fuels, and heavy industrial market sectors. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, client needs, applicable codes and standards, and project execution requirements.
- Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Prepare electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, requests for quotation, technical bid evaluations, and purchase recommendations for medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical equipment, including switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, and packaged equipment.
- Review electrical equipment vendor drawings and coordinate technical interfaces with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing plans, and construction planning. Lead electrical discipline execution, support project managers with work planning and progress reporting, and manage change effectively.
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures, including NEC, IEEE, API, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, and applicable client and site standards.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects and develop practical, non-standard design solutions where required.
- Perform or review power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination, motor starting, grounding, and arc flash studies using SKM, ETAP, or similar power system modeling software.
- Perform quality reviews of production drawings, specifications, calculations, and project-related data to verify technical accuracy, interdisciplinary coordination, and incorporation of comments.
- Provide quality review of construction administration activities, including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and testing of electrical systems.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
- Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the electrical engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
