Senior Electrical Estimator
Lead the Team. Shape the Bid. Build What’s Next.
At ABLe, we believe successful projects start long before construction begins. They start with sound planning, smart estimating, strong collaboration, and people who take ownership of getting the details right.
We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Estimator who is both a technical expert and a team leader. We are looking for someone who understands the numbers, sees the bigger picture, and knows how to turn project opportunities into competitive, profitable work.
In this role, you’ll lead and develop our electrical estimating team, help shape bid strategy, and partner with leadership across Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, and Operations. Your work will directly influence how we pursue opportunities, manage risk, support our field teams, and grow the electrical division.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to do more than price projects. We want a leader who builds capability, improves processes, shares knowledge, and helps create a stronger, more effective estimating function.
What You’ll Do
Lead, Coach & Develop the Team
- Lead the day-to-day workflow of the electrical estimating team, balancing workloads, bid deadlines, and business priorities.
- Partner with the Electrical Director to align estimating capacity and work-in-progress targets with field execution and sustainable revenue growth.
- Assign estimates based on team members’ experience, strengths, and workload.
- Coach and mentor junior estimators, strengthen technical capabilities, and establish consistent estimating practices.
- Participate in recruiting and selecting future team members.
- Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and quality.
Own the Estimating & Preconstruction Process
- Lead the development and review of accurate, competitive estimates for large-scale electrical construction projects.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, addenda, bid instructions, and project requirements to develop a clear understanding of scope.
- Perform and oversee detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.
- Develop realistic labor-hour, productivity, scheduling, and construction-method assumptions.
- Evaluate site conditions, project complexity, constructability, and potential cost exposures.
- Track the estimating pipeline, bid status, workload, and results to support informed business decisions.
- Meet bid deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, completeness, and quality.
Develop Competitive, Profitable Bids
- Obtain, evaluate, and validate supplier, vendor, and subcontractor pricing.
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and risks before bids are submitted.
- Partner with Procurement to evaluate material costs, availability, lead times, and alternatives.
- Support bid strategy, value engineering, and alternative pricing opportunities.
- Coordinate with the Electrical Director on project financial performance, historical costs, and lessons learned to improve future estimates.
- Prepare clear bid summaries, pricing worksheets, proposals, and supporting documentation.
Partner Across the Business
- Work with Sales to understand customer needs, project opportunities, and bid strategy.
- Collaborate with Engineering to validate technical requirements and design assumptions.
- Partner with Operations and Project Management to confirm labor, productivity, schedule, and constructability assumptions.
- Coordinate with Contracts to address commercial requirements, scope exclusions, and contractual considerations.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, scope reviews, and customer discussions as needed.
- Ensure project teams receive a clear handoff of estimating assumptions, scope, exclusions, and other critical details.
Support Execution & Improve Performance
- Assist Project Managers with change-order pricing, scope revisions, and additional work.
- Review actual project performance against estimating assumptions to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain organized bid files, historical cost data, pricing information, and estimating documentation.
- Monitor market trends and changes in labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Identify and implement improvements to estimating tools, workflows, quality controls, and reporting.
- Manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines while keeping accuracy and accountability at the forefront.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a practical, analytical leader who combines strong electrical estimating expertise with sound business judgment and the ability to bring people together.
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
- Significant experience estimating electrical construction projects, including complex or large-scale projects.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or developing an estimating team.
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, labor productivity, material requirements, and cost drivers.
- The ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, scope documents, and bid requirements.
- Experience with quantity takeoffs, labor calculations, supplier and subcontractor pricing, and bid development.
- A strong understanding of project profitability, cost risk, scope management, and estimating assumptions.
- Experience collaborating with Operations, Project Management, Sales, Engineering, and Procurement.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to explain pricing, assumptions, risks, and recommendations.
- A continuous-improvement mindset and a commitment to developing people and strengthening processes.
How you work matters, too. You take ownership, ask thoughtful questions, communicate early when something needs attention, and approach challenges with a solutions-oriented mindset. You value accuracy without losing sight of the bigger business picture, and you understand that the best estimate is one the company can execute successfully not simply the lowest number on bid day.
The ABLe Culture
At ABLe, we’re building for growth and that means building the right team, strengthening how we work together, and creating processes that support our people in the field and in the office.
We value people who take initiative, share ideas, follow through on commitments, and work across departments rather than in silos. We believe strong results come from collaboration, clear communication, accountability, and a willingness to keep improving.
As our Senior Electrical Estimator, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Make a visible impact. Your estimates and recommendations will help shape project selection, profitability, and the future growth of the electrical division.
- Work as a business partner. You’ll collaborate with leaders and teams across the organization, connecting estimating decisions to real-world project execution.
- Build a stronger team. You’ll help develop talent, establish consistent practices, and create an environment where people can learn and perform at a high level.
- Improve how we operate. We welcome practical ideas that make our processes more effective, our bids more accurate, and our project handoffs stronger.
- Help shape what comes next. As ABLe grows, your leadership will help establish the foundation for a scalable, disciplined, and high-performing estimating function.
We’re looking for someone who wants to contribute, not just maintain the status quo. Someone who sees opportunities to make things better and has the experience and initiative to help make it happen.
Why ABLe?
At ABLe, the work we do supports the infrastructure businesses and communities depend on. From electrical systems and pathways to structured cabling, security, and mission-critical environments, our projects help connect people, facilities, and technology.
We offer the opportunity to be part of a growing organization where your expertise matters, your ideas can make a difference, and your leadership helps shape the business.
