Electronics & Hardware Integration Engineer
Summary
Senior engineer designing and integrating electronic systems for quantum computers. You will develop custom PCBs, manage rack and cryostat assemblies, and use lab instrumentation like VNAs and oscilloscopes, while utilizing Python for automation and testing.
Every quantum computer we build depends on getting the physical foundations right, and that’s where you come in.
As Alice & Bob scales up its quantum hardware, you’ll be the key link that brings instruments, cabling, racks, and custom electronics together into reliable, compact, production-ready systems.
Reporting to the HERMES Team Lead, whose team builds the link between the lab and the quantum chip, you’ll work hand in hand with physicists, RF engineers, and mechanical engineers. This is a hands-on, systems-level role. You’ll make sure everything fits, works, and can be scaled, repaired and maintained as our installations grow.
Responsabilities
- Design and integrate robust rack and electronics systems for our quantum computing set-ups, including custom PCBs, cryostat sub-parts, and the tooling needed to support implementation
- Integrate equipment into racks and cryostats, manage wiring across instruments, and drive the scale-up of installations
- Diagnose and repair electronic boards and equipment: understand why something failed, and decide whether to fix it in-house or send it back to the supplier
- Validate and verify commercial equipment, running tests to check that signals and performance meet our needs
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with equipment and component suppliers, keeping an eye on state-of-the-art instrumentation
- Work closely with physicists, RF and mechanical engineers to define hardware architectures, and document your work along the way
Requirements
- Engineering degree (or equivalent) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years in electronics design and system integration, ideally with an electromechanical background (robotics, drones, wearables, connected or embedded devices, anywhere size, weight and power are tight)
- Hands-on PCB design experience (KiCad, Altium or similar)
- Hands-on experience with cabling and rack integration
- Real workshop skills: you’ve soldered, debugged, assembled and repaired electronic or electromechanical systems
- Some exposure to RF systems (telecoms, radar, connected objects…). You don’t need to be an RF design expert
- Familiarity with lab instrumentation (VNAs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes). We’ll help you grow on test and validation
- Comfortable using Python (or another language) to automate tests and processes
- A resourceful, pragmatic mindset and a knack for inventing simpler, more scalable integration solutions
- Supplier management skills, and strong communication, both with external partners and across internal teams
- Proficient in English, French is a big plus
Nice to have
- Knowledge of digital electronics or GPU integration
- Experience integrating systems in cryogenic environments
Recruitment process
