Led by an international team of experienced scientists, engineers, developers and visionaries, Airthings is on a mission to ensure people around the world take control of their air quality through simple, sustainable and accessible technology solutions. We make radon and air quality solutions an essential and universal element for every building or home. Headquartered in Oslo, we are a Norwegian tech company with a global footprint serving customers all over the world.

We are looking for a Senior Embedded Engineer to join our Embedded Software Team at our Oslo headquarter.

Are you as passionate as we are about creating truly low-power, innovative, and user-friendly end-customer products? Would you like to write embedded software that empowers people to understand more about the air that we all breathe? Are you eager to tackle new tasks and confident in developing simple, elegant, tested, and maintainable embedded software solutions?

About the Embedded Software Team

The Embedded Software Team is a team that develops the sensor devices and connectivity technology that are the foundation of the Airthings ecosystem. We're working in an agile way using modern tools. Give us an impossible task to solve and we'll happily solve it for you, "How hard can it be?". Embedded Software is at the heart of what we do, and we need to stay at the forefront of it while creating the best low-power and robust embedded sensor solutions.

Job Summary

As a Senior Embedded Software Developer, you will, together with the team, bring our solutions to the next level. You will work with the research, development, and implementation of Airthings' unique low-power wireless protocols on both current and future products. In this senior role, you will work intimately with other senior wireless experts on the team to add new features and improve existing ones, such as provisioning, security, and more.

You will be an integral part of Airthings' embedded software team as a whole and will, in addition to wireless connectivity, also contribute to implementing drivers, middleware, and more. You will work within Airthings on a range of products for both B2C and B2B customers. The work will involve collaboration with Airthings' cross-disciplinary project teams across software, hardware, and product.

You, and the solutions you create, will be an integral part of Airthings' future success and of course how our customers worldwide experience our products and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and improve complex wireless device drivers.
  • Integrate cutting-edge 3rd party wireless stacks and SDKs into our ecosystem.
  • Troubleshoot low-power wireless connectivity issues using packet sniffers and other tools.
  • Design and implement firmware with hard resource constraints on memory footprint, power consumption, and other parameters typical to embedded systems.
  • Troubleshoot embedded systems with multiple microcontrollers. If you aren't using a logic analyzer - it ain't embedded software!
  • Maintain excellent unit, integration, and system-level test coverage of all new source code.
  • Design software for running on an RTOS with many concurrent threads of state machines and data flows.
  • Working actively in git and reviewing team pull requests - always pushing best practices.

To name a few technologies in use in our team: C, Python, ARM Cortex-M MCUs, TI-RTOS, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, Low power communication protocols; Bluetooth Low Energy, WiFi, Cellular and Proprietary Sub1-GHz radio protocols.

Requirements

  • You have a Master's degree in electrical engineering, software development, or similar and 3+ years of experience as an embedded software developer working actively with low-power wireless and embedded software in C.
  • You get excited about implementing complex solutions under resource constraints. You love to work in an environment of continuous learning and improvement where we all constructively review each other's code. You excel at walking the line of writing code that gets the job done fast, but with a level of quality that makes sure, it will not come back to bite you later.
  • You have experience in working with wireless protocols and stacks - ideally both proprietary protocols and standardized protocols, like Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15.4, or others.
  • Applicants with RTOS experience are preferred. Experience with nRF5x or Texas Instruments CC13/26/32 products.
  • As a person, you thrive in an environment where you can learn from others and teach others. You enjoy a fast-paced and open environment, where every voice counts.

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive pay and benefits, including pension and insurance
  • A place where work-life balance is highly valued
  • An inclusive and safe work environment where diversity is embraced
  • Opportunities for continued growth and learning
  • City center location, right by Slottsparken
  • Social events & fun – We work hard and play hard with regular social activities
