Senior Energy Strategist

Open 35d

The Senior Energy Strategist serves as a trusted advisor to Environ Energy's largest and most sophisticated energy procurement clients — acting, in effect, as the financial planner and risk manager for each client's energy portfolio. In this senior, client-facing role, you will design and deliver customized procurement and risk management strategies, partnering with Environ's Market Analytics Team to translate market intelligence into clear, decision-ready guidance. Working alongside the Sales Team throughout the client relationship, the Senior Energy Strategist is not a new-business hunter but plays an outsized role in client retention — deepening relationships, demonstrating measurable value, and identifying opportunities to expand Environ's impact through the company's broader sustainability, efficiency, resiliency, and compliance solutions.

About Environ

Environ is a leading energy management firm that helps large commercial and industrial clients reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainability by improving building energy efficiency, facilitating clean energy procurement, increasing resiliency, boosting regulatory compliance, tracking carbon and meeting ESG commitments. With a history that dates to the early 1990s, Environ serves clients across North America and abroad. Current clients include commercial real estate, healthcare, higher education, hospitality, industrial facilities, data centers and public entities. Environ has more than $1B in energy contracts under management, with >$100M in demonstrated savings for our clients. Environ is highly acquisitive and recently added leading edge carbon tracking and ESG reporting to its portfolio, with additional diversified acquisitions already in the pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead energy advisor to Environ's largest and most sophisticated clients — the strategic point person for how each client buys energy and manages risk.
  • Act as the financial planner and risk manager for clients' energy spend: develop budgets and forecasts, define risk tolerances, set hedging objectives, and monitor positions against market movement — proactively advising clients when conditions warrant action.
  • Design and execute customized procurement strategies across product structures (fixed, index, block-and-index, layered hedging) and contract terms, matched to each client's load profile, budget certainty needs, and risk appetite.
  • Partner with the Market Analytics Team to interpret commodity pricing, forward curves, trends, and market fundamentals — translating analysis into clear, timely, decision-ready client recommendations.
  • Lead strategy presentations and market briefings directly with C-suite, finance, and energy management stakeholders, in person and virtually.
  • Direct competitive solicitations (RFPs) for complex, large-load opportunities; evaluate supplier offers, negotiate pricing and contract terms, and guide clients through transaction execution.
  • Work closely with Environ's Engagement Teams — including colleagues in consulting support, pricing, and client services roles — to ensure accurate deliverables, smooth contract execution and client onboarding, and a consistently excellent client experience.
  • Partner closely with the Sales Team throughout the client lifecycle, serving as the strategic and technical lead in complex pursuits, onboarding, and renewals.
  • Own retention outcomes for assigned clients: build durable, trust-based advisory relationships, ensure clients realize measurable value from Environ's guidance, and lead renewal strategy well ahead of contract expirations.
  • Bring a commercial mindset to every relationship: identify client needs beyond procurement and surface cross-selling opportunities for Environ's broader sustainability, efficiency, resiliency, and compliance solutions, partnering with the Sales Team to develop them.
  • Mentor and develop Energy Analysts and Energy Strategists — reviewing analysis, coaching on client strategy, and raising the quality, consistency, and market fluency of the broader Energy Strategy Team — with the potential to take on formal supervisory responsibility as the team grows.
  • Other duties as required.
