What you will be doing\:

In this role, you will provide specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise to support the development and integration of external communications systems onboard submarines. You will play a key role in maturing the external communications sub-system through build, test, and commissioning activities, working closely with ship staff, subcontractors, and specialist teams to ensure successful system integration and handover.

Core duties\:

  • Mature the external communications sub-system throughout the submarine build, test, and commissioning lifecycle

  • Undertake test and trial events onboard the submarine, supporting system validation and performance activities

  • Coordinate subcontractor visits to site, including security requirements, health and safety briefings, and on-board support during installation and testing activities

  • Investigate defects and non-conformities relating to installation or testing activities, identifying and implementing appropriate resolutions

  • Define system architectures, components, interfaces, and data requirements to support the development and production of component sub-systems

  • Understand contractual and performance requirements for external communications systems and support the definition of associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities

Essential skills\:

  • Experience in Field Engineering or Construction Engineering within a Test and Commissioning environment, including participation in test and trial activities

  • Domain specialist knowledge of communications systems

  • Relevant fault-finding and problem-solving experience

  • Electrical and/or electronic engineering experience

The Build Integration External Communications Team\:

The Build Integration – External Communications team oversees the installation and testing of Combat Systems across the submarine build programme. This role focuses specifically on External Communications systems, working closely with Operations, subcontractors, and specialist engineering teams to deliver installation, integration, and test activities throughout the lifecycle of the build programme through to system handover.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to complex defence systems and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the successful delivery of one of the UK's most advanced submarine programmes.
