About the role Shieldai creates intelligent systems for defense, including the Hivemind autonomy software and V-BAT aircraft.

Location: Melbourne Engagement: International Office Entity

Design and implement custom computer vision algorithms for high-performance C++ pipelines.
Integrate perception models into edge compute environments for autonomous systems.
Translate research concepts into functional, deployable software.
Optimize inference performance for real-time operation across varied environmental conditions.
Manage the full lifecycle of technical projects from initial design to final integration.
Collaborate with robotics, AI, and optical engineering teams to deliver mission-critical solutions.

Degree in Computer Vision, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Expert-level C++ proficiency with a history of building high-performance, real-time software.
Experience creating bespoke computer vision algorithms rather than relying solely on pre-existing libraries.
Strong grasp of image processing, machine learning, and computer vision theory.
Ability to manage complex technical tasks from ambiguous requirements through to delivery.
Competence in core software engineering, including data structures, algorithms, and version control.

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Background in SLAM, 3D reconstruction, target tracking, camera calibration, or object detection.
Experience with real-time video surveillance or similar vision-based systems.
Familiarity with OpenCV or deep learning workflows for classification and sequence modeling.
Experience deploying deep learning models into production perception systems.
Prior work within the defense industry or on unmanned autonomous systems.
