Senior Engineer - DevOps
What are we building?
Hard Rock Digital is a team focused on becoming the best online sportsbook, casino, and social gaming company in the world. We’re building a team that resonates passion for learning, operating, and building new products and technologies for millions of consumers. We care about each customer interaction, experience, behavior, and insight and strive to ensure we’re always acting authentically.
Rooted in the kindred spirits of Hard Rock and the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Hard Rock Digital taps a brand known the world over as the leader in gaming, entertainment, and hospitality. We’re taking that foundation of success and bringing it to the digital space - ready to join us?
What’s the position?
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our growing Product & Technology organization at Hard Rock Digital. In this role, you will help build and scale the internal developer platform that powers our gaming and entertainment products—making it faster and safer for every engineering team to ship.
This is a platform engineering–focused role: rather than only maintaining infrastructure, you’ll design and build self-service workflows, golden paths, and developer tooling on top of Backstage, our internal developer platform (IDP) of choice. You’ll partner with product engineering teams to understand their pain points and turn them into paved-road, self-serve capabilities—provisioning, CI/CD, environments, observability, and more—so teams can move independently without sacrificing security or compliance.
You’ll also model what it means to operate at the pace of AI-enabled engineering: fluently using AI coding assistants, agentic tooling, and LLM-powered workflows to design platform capabilities faster, automate toil, and raise the bar for the entire team.
What will you do?
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineering, you will:
Design, build, and operate our internal developer platform on Backstage, including software catalog, templates, plugins, and scorecards that give engineers a consistent, self-service experience across the stack.
Create golden-path templates and self-service workflows (Backstage Software Templates, Terraform/Terragrunt modules, CI/CD scaffolding) that let product teams provision infrastructure, services, and environments without filing a ticket.
Architect and implement scalable AWS and hybrid-cloud infrastructure using Terraform/Terragrunt and related Infrastructure as Code tools, exposed to engineering teams through self-service platform interfaces.
Design, build, and optimize highly available containerized environments leveraging EKS, Kubernetes, and Docker, and surface them as consumable platform primitives.
Lead the automation strategy for CI/CD pipelines (TeamCity, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and similar), building reusable, self-service pipeline patterns that scale across teams.
Champion security and compliance by design, embedding guardrails, identity/access controls, and policy-as-code directly into the self-service platform so "paved road" is always the secure road.
Partner with product engineering, SRE, QA, security, and operations teams to identify friction points and convert them into platform capabilities that improve developer experience and velocity.
Define and track developer experience (DevEx) and platform adoption metrics (lead time, self-service usage, ticket deflection) to demonstrate platform impact.
Leverage AI tools fluently as a core part of your daily workflow—using AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex), agentic automation, and LLM-powered tooling to accelerate platform delivery, generate and review Backstage plugins/templates, and help the broader team adopt AI-enabled ways of working.
What are we looking for?
We’re seeking an experienced engineer who is genuinely energized by platform engineering—building tools and paved roads that make other engineers more productive, not just running infrastructure. You should be comfortable owning architecture and implementation decisions for internal developer platforms while helping elevate the DevOps discipline across the organization. Critically, you’re someone who has embraced AI tooling not as a novelty but as a genuine force multiplier—and who can help others do the same.
The ideal candidate will have:
5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar roles, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
Hands-on experience building or operating an internal developer platform (IDP)—Backstage strongly preferred—including catalog design, software templates, and custom plugin development.
A track record of designing self-service workflows and golden paths that reduce toil and ticket volume for product engineering teams.
Expert-level knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architectures (multi-account setups, VPC design, IAM policies, networking).
Strong experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferred), Docker, and Helm for container orchestration and management.
Advanced Infrastructure as Code (IaC) expertise using Terraform/Terragrunt, with deep understanding of modular design and reusability suitable for self-service consumption.
Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, TypeScript/ (useful for Backstage plugin development), or other relevant languages.
Experience leading CI/CD initiatives and designing scalable, self-service delivery pipelines with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or comparable tools.
Strong understanding of observability practices and performance monitoring frameworks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Datadog, etc.), ideally surfaced through platform tooling.
Comprehensive knowledge of networking, security hardening, and compliance in regulated industries, and experience embedding these as automated guardrails.
Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction in cross-functional teams.
AWS Professional Certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or SysOps Administrator) strongly preferred.
Demonstrated fluency with AI development tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar), including practical experience integrating AI assistants into infrastructure workflows, platform tooling, code review, incident response, or documentation. The ability to operate at AI-enabled development velocity is a core expectation of this role, not a nice-to-have.
