Senior Engineer - QA
Summary
Senior QA automation engineer at Brivo in Bengaluru (onsite) who owns test automation and performance engineering for assigned product areas: building Python-based automated suites (Robot Framework/PyTest/Playwright), REST API automation, and load/stress tests with Locust, JMeter, or k6 integrated into CI/CD. Requires evening availability for meetings with US-based counterparts.
In this role, you will take ownership of automation and performance testing for assigned product areas. You will design and maintain automated test suites, develop performance test scenarios, analyse system behaviour under different workloads, and work closely with developers to identify bottlenecks and improve application reliability.
- Test Automation: Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test suites using Python and frameworks such as Robot Framework, PyTest, and Playwright.
- API Testing: Own automation for REST APIs, including functional, integration, contract, negative, authentication, and end-to-end scenarios.
- Performance and Load Testing: Design, develop, and execute performance, load, stress, and endurance tests to evaluate application behaviour under varying workloads.
- Performance Test Scripting: Build and maintain reusable performance test scripts using tools such as Locust, JMeter, or k6, with a strong emphasis on code-driven performance testing.
- Performance Analysis: Analyse response times, throughput, error rates, resource utilisation, and latency percentiles to identify bottlenecks and performance degradation.
- Root Cause Investigation: Collaborate with developers and infrastructure teams to investigate performance issues across APIs, services, databases, and distributed systems.
- Performance Benchmarking: Establish performance baselines, define measurable acceptance criteria, compare results across releases, and identify regressions before production deployment.
- CI/CD Integration: Integrate functional automation and performance smoke tests into CI/CD pipelines, enabling early detection of regressions and faster feedback.
- Framework Engineering: Improve automation framework architecture, reusable libraries, test data management, parallel execution, reporting, and test reliability.
- Test Strategy and Planning: Define test coverage and approaches for new features, identify quality risks early, and determine appropriate functional and non-functional testing requirements.
- Troubleshooting and Debugging: Investigate complex failures using application logs, API traces, monitoring dashboards, and performance test reports.
- Code Reviews and Mentoring: Review automation code, promote coding standards, share technical knowledge, and support the development of junior engineers.
- Quality Reporting: Communicate test coverage, automation health, performance trends, bottlenecks, and release risks through clear, actionable reports.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with developers, product managers, DevOps, and US-based engineering counterparts to align on quality goals and delivery priorities.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4–8 years of hands-on experience in software testing and test automation, including substantial experience with API automation.
- Strong programming skills in Python or Java, with the ability to develop clean, reusable, and maintainable test code.
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one automation framework, such as Robot Framework, PyTest, or Playwright.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, authentication, schema validation, and integration testing.
- Strong practical experience in performance and load testing, including designing workloads, executing tests, interpreting results, and investigating performance bottlenecks.
- Hands-on experience with at least one performance testing tool such as Locust, Apache JMeter, or k6.
- Understanding of key performance metrics, including response time, throughput, requests per second, error rate, concurrent users, and p90/p95/p99 latency.
- Experience analysing performance test results and correlating application behaviour with logs, monitoring metrics, database activity, or infrastructure resource utilisation.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Git, including branching, pull requests, and code review workflows.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Willingness and availability to attend regular meetings with US-based counterparts during evening hours in India, depending on team and project requirements.
- Ability to work onsite in Bengaluru.
