GrabDefence is Grab's own Fraud detection and prevention technology platform for companies that want to protect themselves from fraudsters and fraudulent transactions. Drawing from Grab's own experience operating in multiple departments across the region and battling multiple fraud attempts, GrabDefence wants to help companies build Trust in their platforms. GrabDefence is consist of product lines such as AML, Chargeback protection, and eKYC solutions to its product portfolio, and all of these cutting-edge solutions based on AI will be launched this year, providing the applicant with a tremendous learning and growth opportunity.

Get to Know the Role
In this role, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for strengthening and scaling GrabDefence's fraud-prevention services. Your teams will modernize critical defence capabilities, improve operational reliability, and build trusted backend solutions serving Grab's digital banking businesses and other partners.
- Strategic Backend Leadership: You will define the technical strategy and roadmap for GrabDefence's services. You will guide the uplift of existing systems, address architectural and operational challenges, and ensure the platform can evolve with changing fraud patterns, business requirements, and customer needs.
- Leader of Leaders: You will manage and coach Engineering Managers and senior Individual Contributors, building a strong leadership bench and a high-performing backend engineering organization. You will foster a culture of ownership, psychological safety, technical rigor, and continuous improvement.
- Platform and Engineering Excellence: You will raise the bar for backend architecture, engineering quality, security, and maintainability. Working with senior technical leaders, you will simplify and modernize our services, strengthen platform capabilities, and ensure systems are scalable, resilient, and ready to support sensitive financial use cases.
- Customer and Cross-Functional Partnership: You will work closely with Product, Business, Data Science, Operations, Risk, and digital banking stakeholders. You will translate fraud-prevention and operational needs into actionable engineering priorities, manage technical trade-offs, and ensure solutions deliver measurable value to our internal customers and partners.
- Operational Rigor: You will be accountable for the operational health of GrabDefence's backend services. You will strengthen observability, incident response, capacity planning, and root-cause prevention while improving system availability, performance, and cost efficiency. You will help teams move from reactive issue resolution toward sustainable engineering improvements.

Qualifications Requirements
- Industry Experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience in software engineering and technology, including significant experience in engineering leadership and people management.
- Proven Leadership at Scale: Extensive experience leading multiple backend teams, Engineering Managers, and senior Individual Contributors. You have a strong record of delivering and operating business-critical platforms at scale.
- Backend and Distributed Systems Expertise: Strong technical depth in scalable backend services, distributed systems, microservices, APIs, databases, and event-driven architectures. You can guide architectural decisions and modernization efforts across complex, interconnected systems.
- Platform Modernization: Demonstrated experience uplifting legacy or rapidly developed services into secure, maintainable, and scalable platforms. You can balance immediate operational needs with longer-term architectural improvements while maintaining service continuity.
- Operational Excellence: Deep knowledge of software development lifecycles, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, capacity planning, and site reliability engineering. You have successfully improved system availability, performance, incident response, and engineering practices across multiple teams.
- Security and Risk Mindset: Experience building systems that handle sensitive data and business-critical decisions. You understand the importance of security, privacy, auditability, and regulatory considerations when supporting fraud-prevention and financial-services use cases.
- Fraud and Financial Services Domain: Experience in fraud prevention, risk management, payments, banking, AML, identity verification, or other financial technology domains is highly advantageous. You can work effectively with domain specialists to translate complex risk requirements into reliable technical solutions.
- Strategic and Cross-Functional Influence: Demonstrated ability to shape technical and product strategy across organizational boundaries. You can partner effectively with Product, Business, Data Science, Operations, Risk, and digital banking stakeholders while communicating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Talent Developer: A passion for coaching and developing engineering leaders. You have experience managing the performance, growth, and career progression of Engineering Managers, Lead Engineers, and senior technical talent.
- Customer and Product Mindset: You understand that platform reliability and technical quality directly affect customer outcomes. You use operational data, customer feedback, and business priorities to guide investments and deliver measurable improvements for internal customers and external partners.
- Adaptability: The ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment and lead teams through technical change, evolving business priorities, service modernization, and organizational growth.
- Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
