Senior Engineering Manager – Platform Management and Control

The Senior Engineering Manager is responsible for providing technical and engineering strategic leadership to the teams delivering Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), Visual Surveillance System (VSS), Control and Instrumentation (C&I) and other related ProcPacks functional design for the River Class Destroyer Programme in support of the Royal Canadian Navy.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering – RCD Wholeship Design (lead for the Platform (Electrical) IPT), the role holder will maintain key interfaces with ISI, Lockheed Martin, and the end-user customer through their Programme Management Office (PMO). The role requires effective collaboration across internal and external stakeholders, including key suppliers, to ensure alignment with programme objectives and contractual requirements.

The Senior Engineering Manager will provide both strategic and tactical direction to the IPMS Engineering Manager and leads for VSS and C&I, enabling the development and maintenance of an effective delivery plan. You will support the Engineering Manager in leading the engineering team to deliver the programme’s daily and weekly design outputs, including engineering changes, calculations, technical design documentation, and reviews of vendor-furnished information (VFI).

What we're looking for in you\:

The role will provide technical expertise across all stakeholders, including the supplier, to shape the most effective approach to delivery for BAES scope and the wider programme as a whole. They will ensure that specialist knowledge is applied in system performance, capacity assessment, and optimisation to deliver robust, compliant, and customer focused solutions throughout the shipbuilding lifecycle.
Strong Control Systems and marine/building services systems experience is essential to ensuring system reliability and capability across the platform.

Your main responsibilities as Senior Engineering Manager – Platform Management and Control will be to\:

· Act as the principal representative for the iPMS, VSS and C&I scope at customer engagements and internal BAE Systems Chief Engineer forums.

· Deputise for the Head of Engineering – RCD Wholeship Design as Platform (Electrical) IPT Engineering delegate when required.

· Line manage the iPMS Engineering Manager and other direct reports, ensuring compliance with company policies relating to conduct, attendance, and engineering governance. (circa 25 heads)

· Balance complex and competing programme demands, providing clear direction to achieve the required quality of design outputs within agreed schedules and cost constraints, and supporting the Head of Platform (Electrical) IPT in their role as Control Account Manager (CAM) within the approved EAC.

· Lead and assure the development of compliant design solutions, undertaking design appraisals within assigned zones to ensure alignment with specifications, standards, and quality requirements.

· Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to support detail design delivery and ensure design intent is maintained through appropriate assurance activities in conjunction with Design Assurance and Technical Authority teams.

Your skills and qualifications\:

· Membership of an appropriate engineering institution and be a Chartered Engineer or be working towards membership and CEng.

· Experience and expertise, in PMS, VSS and C&I systems.

· Experience and expertise of processes and tools used in PMS, VSS and C&I Design Engineering.

· Strong Control Systems and marine/building services systems experience is essential to ensuring system reliability and capability across the platform.

· A background in Systems Engineering design is desirable.

Location\: Scotstoun + travel to Canada for 1 week, circa once per quarter.
