Senior Engineering Manager - Product Platforms

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager – Product Platforms based in India.

In this senior leadership role, you will oversee the development of shared product platforms that power APIs, integrations, AI-driven workflows, and usage-based consumption systems. You will lead and develop backend and platform engineering teams, ensuring their systems deliver reliable, scalable, and consistent experiences across multiple products. A key focus will be building accurate, auditable infrastructure for tracking AI usage and credit consumption. You will work closely with Product, Platform, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Finance, and Revenue Operations to align technical strategy with business objectives. This role combines people leadership, architectural oversight, and operational excellence within a global, distributed engineering environment. You will empower engineers and technical leaders to deliver high-impact platforms that support product innovation and business growth.

• Lead, mentor, and develop backend and platform engineering teams responsible for API platforms and usage or consumption systems.

• Own delivery outcomes, including roadmap commitments, execution quality, prioritization, and predictable delivery across platforms serving multiple internal and external consumers.

• Set direction for usage metering and AI credit accounting systems, ensuring accuracy, auditability, low latency, and cost-effective processing.

• Partner with Product teams to define platform roadmaps based on customer needs, business priorities, and evolving product requirements.

• Lead engineering recruitment, strengthen talent pipelines, and maintain high standards for technical capability and team performance.

• Establish and maintain API governance, versioning strategies, and backward compatibility to ensure dependable contracts for teams and integrations that rely on shared services.

• Drive operational excellence through service-level objectives (SLOs), observability, healthy on-call practices, incident management, and continuous improvement.

• Collaborate with Finance, Revenue Operations, and Pricing teams on consumption models, entitlements, quotas, overage policies, and usage reporting.

• Bring structure and clarity to ambiguous, cross-functional challenges, translating complex problems into actionable plans for engineering teams.

• Support the growth of senior individual contributors and technical leads, establishing clear technical ownership, career development paths, and succession plans.

• Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, dependencies, and risks clearly to engineering leaders and business stakeholders across different time zones.

• Work alongside Principal Engineers to shape long-term technical strategy while maintaining sufficient technical depth to challenge designs, review architecture, and guide sound engineering decisions.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience managing backend or platform engineering teams, including recruitment, performance management, coaching, and career development.

• A strong hands-on engineering background in backend development or distributed systems, with the ability to contribute credibly to architecture discussions and design or code reviews.

• Experience building and managing product platforms or shared services used by multiple product teams.

• A proven track record of delivering and operating APIs at scale, with strong knowledge of RESTful API design and best practices.

• Experience developing data-intensive systems involving high-volume event ingestion, aggregation, processing, and reporting.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity, influence technical direction, and coordinate solutions across teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience working in large-scale distributed systems environments and collaborating closely with Platform and SRE teams is an advantage.

• Familiarity with usage-based business models, including metering, rating, entitlements, quotas, and billing integrations, is preferred.

• Experience building systems for AI cost tracking, token consumption, or credit accounting is a plus.

• Exposure to agentic and AI-powered workflows, including orchestration, state management, and integration patterns, is desirable.

• Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar agent integration approaches is an advantage.

• Experience designing, using, or operating GraphQL APIs in production is beneficial.

• Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams across multiple regions and time zones is preferred.
