Senior Estimator – Water & Wastewater Construction

Velocity Constructors, Inc. is an employee-owned general contractor specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure construction. We're seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead our estimating department, oversee complex project estimates, and help drive continued growth. This is an opportunity for a seasoned construction professional who brings strong technical estimating expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to mentor and develop others. Our ideal candidate understands not only how to prepare a competitive bid, but how to evaluate opportunities, identify risks, and position projects for successful execution.

What You'll Do

Estimating & Preconstruction

• Lead the preparation and review of detailed estimates for complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

• Review construction drawings, specifications, material takeoffs, and bid documents for accuracy and completeness.

• Evaluate potential projects and help determine which opportunities align with company goals and capabilities.

• Develop competitive bid strategies while considering project risks, constructability, and profitability.

• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and owners throughout the bidding process.

• Oversee the preparation of bid packages and ensure estimates are accurate, thorough, and submitted on time.

• Coordinate the turnover of awarded estimates to operations teams to support successful project execution.

Leadership & Team Development

• Supervise and provide direction to estimators within the department.

• Review team members' estimates, material takeoffs, and bid preparation work.

• Mentor and train estimators, sharing technical expertise, best practices, and practical construction knowledge.

• Support the professional development of team members and strengthen departmental estimating capabilities.

• Foster collaboration, accountability, and clear communication across the estimating department.

Strategic Growth & Relationships

• Work closely with senior leadership to evaluate bidding opportunities and support strategic business decisions.

• Build and maintain productive relationships with owners, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.

• Support Velocity's expansion into new geographic markets.

• Collaborate with project management and operations teams to align estimating assumptions with project execution.

What We're Looking For

• Extensive experience in construction estimating, preferably in water/wastewater infrastructure, heavy civil, or related industrial construction.

• Demonstrated experience leading complex estimates and competitive bidding processes.

• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience, including mentoring and developing estimators.

• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, material takeoffs, and construction means and methods.

• Ability to evaluate project risks, bid opportunities, and cost considerations.

• Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.

• Experience building relationships with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.

• Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership and operational teams.

• Willingness to travel occasionally for project site visits, pre-bid meetings, and industry events.
