Who we are:
Who you are:
Geotab is seeking a Senior Field Hardware Engineer who will provide technical leadership to the Geotab Video field team and coordinate its pilot support. Reporting into Geotab's Video Product team, this role works closely with Video development to make sure GO Focus pilots work as intended from readiness through close, provides technical input to pilot intake alongside Revenue Delivery, triages complex onsite hardware issues as an escalation point and coordinates diagnosis and resolution with the accountable owner, and oversees field data-collection activities that support new AI behaviors. The Senior Field Hardware Engineer also establishes repeatable field processes, manages program risks, mentors junior technicians, and provides clear status updates and recommendations to leadership. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!
What you'll do:
The Senior Field Hardware Engineer is the technical lead for Geotab Video's field team. Success in this role means pilots that work as intended. This role coordinates the team's assignments, travel and equipment; works with Video development to pre-vet new or complex features before pilots; provides technical input to pilot intake, which Revenue Delivery owns; and manages stakeholder communication with Video development, Field Service, third-party installers, resellers and internal teams. The role triages complex system issues across hardware, connectivity, firmware and configuration as an escalation point, coordinates deeper troubleshooting with the accountable owner, and travels approximately 30-40% of the time, including internationally and at short notice, to support high-priority pilots. The role also oversees controlled field data-collection activities, including vehicle rental, equipment readiness, scenario design, testing, and delivery of high-quality training footage to the Vision team. As a senior technical contributor, this position establishes repeatable field processes, manages program risks and dependencies, mentors junior team members, and provides clear status reporting and recommendations to leadership.
How you'll make an impact:
- Serve as the escalation point for onsite triage of complex Geotab Video issues spanning hardware, power, connectivity, firmware, configuration, and SD cards, and drive them to resolution with the right owner.
- Ensure readiness for enterprise pilots, including pre-pilot reviews, pilot support, troubleshooting, validation, and pilot closeout, coordinating the field team's execution.
- Travel to customer and pilot locations when escalations require it, to triage issues and drive them to resolution within days, minimizing pilot disruption and supporting successful conversion from pilot to contract.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for junior technicians, customers, partners, installers, and internal teams during high-priority field issues.
- Guide the team's assessment of vehicle types and operating conditions that may affect pilot performance.
- Verify and document that camera and telematics systems perform as intended end to end against the pilot test plan, including video capture and quality, event detection, connectivity, calibration, and data reaching MyGeotab.
- Develop practical triage and diagnostic plans, coordinate root-cause analysis, recommend and drive corrective actions, and document permanent or preventative solutions for recurring issues.
- Partner with Video development, Computer Vision, Hardware, Product, Field Service, Revenue Delivery, Customer Success, Support, Sales, and Engineering teams, as well as third-party installers and resellers, to communicate field findings and coordinate resolution of technical issues.
- Oversee training-data generation for new AI behaviors, including renting or accessing representative vehicles, installing camera kits, staging target scenarios, conducting controlled drives, and collecting video with known ground truth, on designated development and test vehicles, with the field team carrying out the work.
- Review collected footage and test results for completeness, quality, environmental coverage, and alignment with the Vision team’s requirements.
- Create clear diagnostic procedures, test plans, field reports, pilot-readiness checklists, and training-data documentation.
- Maintain, or oversee the team's, accurate records of hardware kits, tools, components, vehicle configurations, pilot results, defects, and follow-up actions.
- Identify trends across customer deployments and recommend improvements to hardware design, installation processes, field tooling, training materials, and product requirements.
- Coach and support junior field technicians through hands-on guidance, knowledge sharing, field shadowing, and review of technical documentation.
- Support the creation of repeatable operating practices for the Video field team, including deployment readiness, travel preparation, equipment management, safety procedures, and escalation paths.
- Work with Video engineering and product to pre-vet new or complex features before pilots begin.
- Plan field team assignments, travel, equipment and coverage across active pilots.
- Manage stakeholder communication with Video development, Field Service, installers, resellers and internal teams, and report pilot status, risks and recommendations.
- Provide technical input to pilot intake and prioritization, such as feature complexity and readiness. Revenue Delivery owns pilot intake, commercial prioritization and customer success criteria.
- Agree pilot plans with Field Services, including who provides installation and rework support, backup coverage and escalation contacts, and route installation or service issues to them with clear evidence.
- Follow all applicable workplace, vehicle, customer-site, data-handling, and health and safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Bachelors in a related field. Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience in related field may be substituted.
- Post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering.
- Ability to travel approximately 30-40% of the time, including internationally and at short notice.
