Senior Field Service Technician- Chillers

POSITION SUMMARY

Perform advanced project site coordination, troubleshooting, commissioning, and repair of commercial and industrial chiller systems for internal and external customers. Utilize expert-level mechanical, electrical, and controls knowledge to diagnose complex system issues, lead field execution, and direct other technicians. Serve as a technical leader in the field to ensure reliable system performance, customer satisfaction, and safe work practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare and execute chiller service projects, including startups, commissioning, preventive maintenance, repairs, and contractor coordination, while ensuring safe and efficient project delivery.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex refrigeration, electrical, controls, and hydronic system issues using advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Perform system startups, commissioning, functional performance testing, and validation to ensure operation meets design and customer requirements.
  • Optimize chiller system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency through system analysis, tuning, performance monitoring, and corrective recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot advanced chiller components and system-level interactions, including compressors, magnetic bearing systems, expansion devices, VFDs, fan systems, controls, airflow, and water flow dynamics.
  • Mentor, train, and develop technicians through hands-on field support, technical coaching, certification programs, and advanced diagnostic instruction.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for customers, contractors, commissioning teams, and internal stakeholders, providing expert support and coordinating service activities across projects.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including service reports, root cause analyses, incident reports, methods of procedure (MOPs), and regulatory compliance records.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by evaluating system performance, identifying product and service enhancements, recommending upgrades, and providing emergency/on-call technical support as needed.
  • Further the goals and positive, professional image of Division through effective dealings with customers, vendors, and internal departments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree in HVAC, electrical, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience servicing and troubleshooting commercial and industrial chiller systems, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to direct work of others and lead field activities.
  • Previous experience with air-cooled and/or water-cooled chillers, including large tonnage systems (350–500+ tons), low-lift and high-efficiency cooling applications, advanced system components including magnetic bearing compressors (e.g., Danfoss Turbocor), expansion devices, VFDs, and control systems.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills across complex HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and sequence of operations.
  • Advanced verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and field service software platforms.
