About the Opportunity

The Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer is the primary technical and advisory reference at the client. Responsible for leading highly complex data and AI projects from end to end, acting autonomously or coordinating internal and client teams. Possesses a strategic vision of the business problem, multidisciplinary technical depth, and the ability to influence high-level decisions. Serves as a technical ambassador for Indicium, ensuring the quality, value, and expansion of delivered projects.

Their role combines technical depth in AI Engineering — LLMs, RAG, agents, MLOps — with a consultative vision and the ability to operate directly within the client's environment. They seamlessly navigate all data disciplines, with generative and agentic AI serving as their primary vector for value delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Partner directly with business stakeholders across Risk, Credit, Fraud, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to understand business challenges and translate them into data-driven solutions.
Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end Machine Learning and AI solutions, including credit risk models, fraud detection systems, legal document classification, prioritization models, and GenAI-powered workflows.
Modernize client processes by identifying opportunities where AI and ML can automate or enhance existing operations, delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, accuracy, cost reduction, and decision-making.
Mentor and enable client Data Scientists and Analysts through pair modeling, code reviews, technical workshops, and knowledge transfer, ensuring long-term self-sufficiency.
Collaborate closely with Risk, Compliance, and Model Governance teams to ensure solutions comply with financial regulations and internal model validation standards.
Establish and promote MLOps and Model Governance best practices, including version control, production monitoring, model retraining, documentation, model cards, and continuous evaluation.
Serve as a trusted technical advisor, balancing business objectives with sound statistical methodology and AI engineering practices.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Data Science & Machine Learning: Strong background in statistical modeling, supervised machine learning (regression, classification, time series), and ideally financial risk modeling techniques such as PD, LGD, EAD, credit scorecards, or fraud detection.
Financial Services Domain: Experience working within banks, fintechs, or insurance companies, with solid understanding of financial products, credit, risk, compliance, fraud, and regulatory environments.
Programming & Data Engineering: Advanced proficiency in Python (Pandas, Scikit-learn, Statsmodels) and SQL for working with production-scale datasets.
Generative AI: Practical experience applying LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI Agents, fine-tuning strategies, and evaluation methodologies to solve real business problems.
Consulting & Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to work directly with business stakeholders, gather requirements, communicate technical concepts in business language, and influence decision-making.
Advanced English
Availability to travel as required (to São Paulo).
Previous experience in a fintech, bank, or insurance company.

Nice to have

Previous experience in consulting or Forward Deployed Engineering/client-embedded delivery models.
Experience with specialized Financial Services domains such as Model Risk Management, Credit Risk, Fraud Analytics, or LegalTech.
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (Vertex AI, BigQuery) or AWS SageMaker.
Contributions to the Data Science or AI community through publications, conference talks, open-source projects, or technical content.
Strong technical reading skills for academic papers and AI/ML documentation.
