Frontend engineering plays an important role in shaping how people experience Opera’s products. We are interested in building long-term relationships with experienced frontend engineers whose expertise could contribute to future opportunities across our browser and product teams.

This is an ongoing talent opportunity for anticipated future hiring needs and may not represent an immediate vacancy.

At Opera, frontend engineering goes beyond building conventional websites. Our engineers work on sophisticated browser and consumer-product experiences, turning complex technologies and emerging capabilities into intuitive, fast and engaging user experiences used at global scale.

Role & Responsibilities

Depending on the team and opportunity, you could:

• Design and build sophisticated user-facing experiences for browser and consumer technology products.

• Develop maintainable, performant and scalable frontend solutions using modern web technologies.

• Translate complex product and technical capabilities into intuitive user experiences.

• Build interfaces for new and emerging product capabilities, including AI-powered experiences.

• Solve engineering challenges related to frontend performance, responsiveness, reliability and cross-platform behavior.

• Work closely with Product, Design, backend and other engineering teams from early concepts through production delivery.

• Contribute to technical design, testing, code quality and frontend engineering best practices.

Job Requirements

We are interested in engineers with:

• Strong professional frontend or software engineering experience.

• Advanced JavaScript and TypeScript skills.

• Strong experience with modern frontend technologies and frameworks.

• Solid understanding of frontend architecture, browser APIs, performance and modern web-development practices.

• Experience delivering complex, high-quality user-facing products.

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, testing and maintainable code.

• Strong product mindset and problem-solving skills.

• Experience collaborating effectively with Product, Design and other engineering teams.

Preferred / Nice to Have

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be valuable:

• React or comparable modern frontend frameworks.

• Browser features, browser extensions or browser technologies.

• Desktop or cross-platform applications.

• Complex consumer-facing digital products.

• Chromium, browser architecture or web-platform technologies.

• AI-powered interfaces or highly interactive product experiences.

• Frontend performance profiling, automated testing and optimization at scale.
