About the Opportunity
Expansion International is partnering with a fast-growing European digital hospitality technology company to recruit an experienced Full Stack Engineer with a backend lean.
Our client runs an award-winning, white-label digital hospitality platform used by hotels and serviced apartments worldwide. The platform is fully cloud-native and runs in a Kubernetes environment on Google Cloud.
As the engineering team grows, they are adding a developer to own features end to end, from database schema to the interface in a guest's or host's hand. This is additional headcount on an established team of experienced developers.

The Role
We are looking for an experienced engineer with at least 5 years of commercial experience who is strong in Java/Spring with solid React and comfortable leaning backend.
You will own features end to end at the execution level, delivering complete, working vertical slices within an existing design. Architecture decisions sit with the Business Architect and the Head of Technology, who set the direction you build against.
Work can range from integrations (for example connecting a new payment provider) to new end-to-end features that enhance the product. Java is the top priority. The platform is reactive (Spring WebFlux) and cloud-native, with tooling that does much of the heavy lifting around the infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
● Own features end to end: lead development from data model to UI, delivering complete, working vertical slices.
● Build reactive Java/Spring backends (GraphQL and REST APIs) and responsive, accessible React front ends.
● Integrate third-party PMS, access-control and payment systems with guest- and staff-facing apps.
● Maintain end-to-end type safety and strong test coverage across the front end and back end.
● Modernise and enhance existing features while contributing to new ones.
● Think beyond the user story: spot gaps in acceptance criteria and flag them so the team ships the right thing, not just what was written down.
● Use AI tooling daily to plan, code, review and document, and help the team raise the bar on how it is applied.
● Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and solution design.
Required Skills & Experience
● At least 5 years building and shipping real products in a commercial environment.
● Strong Java/Spring (the top priority) with solid React; comfortable leaning backend.
● Spring WebFlux (reactive) experience is a must-have.
● Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and R2DBC.
● Commercial experience designing and maintaining GraphQL and REST APIs.
● Experience using Git or other distributed version control, and an agile mindset with small, reviewable PRs.
● Strong debugging, troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
● Ability to take ownership of development tasks, work from a technical brief, and deliver with minimal supervision.
● Comfortable working in an Agile, fast-paced environment where priorities may evolve.
● Hands-on AI fluency: you use tools like Claude Code to write, refactor, test and document code, write effective prompts, and critically review AI output rather than trusting it blindly.
● Excellent written and verbal English communication, able to collaborate effectively in a distributed team across time zones.
● Able to work aligned to CET business hours, particularly for recurring morning meetings, with flexibility developing after an initial 2 to 3 month period.
Nice to Have
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous but is not essential:
● Cloud-native experience (Google Cloud, Kubernetes/GKE); knowing what Kubernetes is is enough.
● Wider stack familiarity: TypeScript, Vite, MUI, Redux Toolkit, RTK Query, jOOQ, Redis, Flyway, Google Pub/Sub, Docker, GitHub Actions, Keycloak.
● Testing tools: Vitest, React Testing Library, JUnit 5, Testcontainers, Mockito.
● Event-driven architecture experience.
● Hospitality knowledge, especially PMS systems such as Apaleo or Opera Cloud.
