The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division is the Government of Alberta’s centre of digital delivery. It partners with ministries to design simpler, faster, and better services; build capability and confidence in modern digital practices; and assure service quality and value through standards and controls. Multidisciplinary product teams are assigned priority GoA projects and employ an agile, product-oriented approach in providing solutions for ministry partners.

Within DDD, the Software Delivery Branch provides architectural leadership, CloudOps, DevOps practices, quality engineering, and software delivery excellence across product and platform teams.

Role Responsibilities

The Software Delivery branch is looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer (FSD). Reporting to the Manager, Application Services, this position leads and contributes to iterative, continuous development practices where requirements and solutions evolve through close collaboration with cross-functional teams and users.

This role explicitly requires strong AI capability, and we are seeking developers who can build, integrate, and optimize AI-driven solutions as a core part of their software engineering practice.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Leading a multidisciplinary product team in the design, development, and delivery of modern digital products and services.
  • Providing technical leadership for full-stack software development, including AI-enabled and data-driven solutions.
  • Guiding agile delivery by prioritizing work, managing product backlogs, and ensuring predictable, high-quality outcomes.
  • Driving innovation through the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies, automation, and artificial intelligence capabilities.
  • Ensuring solutions meet standards for security, reliability, accessibility, performance, and responsible AI use.
  • Building a collaborative, high-performing team culture through coaching, mentorship, and technical leadership.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships to identify opportunities, align priorities, and advance digital transformation initiatives.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A university degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology), supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible, related experience.
  • A cover letter clearly demonstrating relevant skills and competencies tailored to this position.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

  • Developing applications using C#, Visual Studio, MSSQL, .NET Framework, MVC, ASP.NET, Windows Operating Systems, and Office 365.
  • Working as a Senior Full Stack Developer in an agile environment, delivering complex, production-grade software solutions, including systems with AI-enabled or data-driven capabilities.
  • Using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) to support software development, while applying strong testing, code review, secure coding, and responsible AI practices.
  • Designing, integrating, consuming, or developing AI-enabled services, including large language models, machine learning APIs, and cognitive services, to enhance application functionality and user experience.
  • Implementing automated unit and integration testing, including testing strategies for AI-enabled and data-dependent applications.
  • Working with relational and non-relational database technologies, data structures, and architectures that support analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven functionality.
  • A related master’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience; or
  • A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of open-source technologies and ecosystems, including Node.js/NPM, PHP, React, Java, Angular, MySQL, MongoDB, Drupal, Twig, Elasticsearch, or similar platforms.
  • Development and deployment experience with cloud-based solutions and cloud-native AI, data, automation, and integration services.
  • Application of formal application lifecycle management (ALM) methodologies and software development best practices.
  • Familiarity with change management processes and workflows supporting application releases and enhancements.

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position

Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday

Location: Edmonton
