Senior Full-stack Engineer (AI-assisted development)
Summary
Senior full-stack engineer at Altegio, a ~15-year-old SaaS that manages scheduling, clients, staff, payments, and bookings for service businesses. You own features end to end across a PHP/Vue stack, delegating most coding to AI agents (Claude Code, Codex) while ensuring quality, tests, and sound product decisions.
Our main markets are Brazil and Europe.
We’re looking for a senior engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, influences product decisions, and knows how to accelerate development with AI without compromising quality.
How We Build Software
- We’re building an AI-first development process: almost all code is written with coding agents, including Claude Code and Codex. Our repository contains over 100 shared skills, an AI agent reviews changes, and deployments are triggered from Slack. Colleagues without an engineering background also use AI, with developers reviewing their changes.
- The main challenge is navigating a large codebase, understanding business logic and edge cases, and verifying that solutions work correctly.
- We need an engineer who delegates as much work as possible to AI, critically evaluates its output, and takes ownership of the quality of the final solution.
- Own tasks end to end: Clarify requirements with the CTO and product team, explore code and data, and choose solutions even when there’s no detailed specification.
- Influence product decisions: Analyze user journeys and feedback, proposing solutions that account for UX, product consistency, and implementation costs.
- Ensure quality: Define acceptance criteria, plan testing and rollbacks, and cover key and edge cases with automated tests.
- Build full-stack features: Work across the stack, from UI to database, safely modify existing code, and ship small MRs behind feature flags.
- Use AI effectively: Delegate tasks to coding agents, provide the necessary context, and verify their code, tests, and results.
- Improve engineering practices: Review colleagues’ changes and turn successful approaches into shared skills, agent workflows, and automated checks.
- Upcoming Product Areas
- Developer and vibe-coding tools, including a public API, MCP server, marketplace, plugins, and embeddable modules. We’re also expanding our payments capabilities.
- Commercial development experience with PHP and Vue, React, or a similar frontend framework.
- Hands-on experience using coding agents in real-world projects.
- Strong engineering fundamentals, including transactions and concurrency, idempotency, time zones, access control and data ownership, N+1 queries, and working with tables containing millions of rows. We assess these topics during the technical interview.
- The ability to identify risks, flag blockers, and propose solutions.
- English proficiency at B1 level or above.
- Experience with payments, webhooks, OAuth, and public APIs.
- Experience with high-load systems and technologies such as MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, and ClickHouse.
- Hands-on experience with Sentry, Grafana, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and gradual rollouts.
- Experience building custom skills, coding agents, or MCP servers used by a team.
Backend: PHP 8.3, Slim 4, Symfony Components, RoadRunner.
Frontend: Vue 3, TypeScript, Pinia, Vite.
Data and infrastructure: MySQL, Redis, ClickHouse, RabbitMQ, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes.
AI: Claude Code, Codex.
Our Hiring Process
- Recruiter screening — 30 minutes.
- Technical interview in two parts:
- Without AI: Review a real engineering solution and conduct a code review of a small full-stack PR.
- With AI: Solve a task using your preferred coding agent and discuss your workflow and how you validate the results.
- Product deep dive and leadership meeting: Work together on an ambiguous problem and discuss your decision-making approach.
- Competitive, market-aligned compensation.
- A product at scale: High traffic, a large customer base, and complex business logic. Your decisions will impact businesses and their customers across multiple countries.
- Real ownership and influence: Minimal bureaucracy, direct interaction with C-level leadership, and involvement in product decisions.
- A strong engineering culture: Code reviews, knowledge sharing, and open discussions about technical decisions.
- Fully remote work.
- Employment in Armenia or Kazakhstan, or a contractor arrangement through an individual entrepreneur (IE).
- Your choice of equipment: MacBook, Mac mini, Lenovo, or Dell.
