Senior Full Stack Engineer (Cazoo) | Remote (EU-based candidates only)
About us:
At Cazoo, we like to say that we know Cazoo!
Millions of people come to us every month to find their next car, because we keep the car search process simple. We have hundreds of thousands of used cars listed for sale by dealers nationwide, and guides, advice, tips and reviews to help buyers find the right one.
We don’t just help consumers, though. For our dealer partners, we offer a unique advertising ecosystem that allows them to get their cars seen by buyers across some of the UK’s biggest car search sites: MOTORS, Cazoo, eBay, Gumtree and Parkers.
In 2024 Cazoo became part of the MOTORS family when we purchased the brand and launched the Cazoo app. So, it’s an incredibly exciting time for Cazoo as we look to transform one of the UK’s most well-known automotive brands into one of its leading automotive marketplaces.
MOTORS is also the proud sponsor of The British Motor Show and the Official Automotive Marketplace partner of Premier League club Brentford FC.
About the role:
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Full Stack Engineer to join Cazoo Web and help shape the next stage of our marketplace platform.
We are modernising our technology landscape, moving away from legacy systems towards a modern TypeScript-based platform built around React, Node.js and cloud technologies. This is a significant transformation, and we are looking for a hands-on Senior Engineer who can make a meaningful impact on both the product and the way we build and operate it.
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll report to an Engineering Manager and work as part of a cross-functional product squad. You’ll take end-to-end ownership of solutions — from technical design and implementation through testing, release and production monitoring — while working closely with Product, QA and other engineering teams.
You’ll help extend and improve our high-traffic platform, mentor engineers around you, contribute to code reviews and technical discussions, and advocate for strong engineering standards. You’ll also be expected to identify risks, dependencies and blockers early and communicate them proactively. We value engineers who challenge assumptions constructively and take responsibility for the outcomes of the solutions they build.
Main responsibilities:
Design, build, test and deliver high-quality, clean and maintainable software for our modern cloud-based automotive platform.
Take end-to-end ownership of technical delivery, proactively identifying risks, dependencies and blockers and communicating them early.
Work closely with Product, QA, Platform and other engineering teams to shape solutions, manage dependencies and deliver changes safely.
Make pragmatic engineering decisions that balance business needs, technical debt, system design, performance, reliability, scalability and security.
Contribute to the operational health of the platform by using monitoring and observability tools, investigating production issues and helping improve system reliability.
Participate in the refactoring and modernisation of complex systems, making pragmatic trade-offs while keeping long-term maintainability in mind.
Improve engineering standards and practices through code reviews, technical discussions, knowledge-sharing and constructive challenge.
Support the growth of the engineering department through mentoring, hiring, onboarding and effective feedback.
Role requirements:
Essential Skills & Experience:
Extensive experience designing, developing, testing, releasing and operating high-quality production software in a collaborative engineering environment.
Deep proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
Strong experience with React for front-end development and Node.js for back-end development.
Demonstrated ability to design, implement and consume well-structured APIs.
Strong understanding of modern web development, including CSS/SCSS or CSS-in-JS solutions.
Strong experience with automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end levels, with a pragmatic approach to choosing the right testing strategy.
A track record of taking ownership of technical delivery and communicating risks, dependencies and trade-offs proactively.
Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment and collaborate constructively with engineers, Product and QA.
Proactive, adaptable and impact-driven, with a willingness to challenge assumptions and continuously improve how the team works.
Highly Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Have):
Experience with Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) architectures.
Experience working with Azure and modern cloud-native applications.
Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
Hands-on experience with Terraform for managing cloud infrastructure.
Experience with observability and monitoring in production systems.
Experience with high-traffic consumer-facing applications.
Familiarity with event-driven or microservice architectures.
Experience with modern testing and component-development tooling such as Jest, Playwright, Cypress or Storybook.
