About the role
Join Network Rail's Business Systems team and help shape the future of reporting, analytics, cloud services and AI-enabled solutions that support critical business operations across the railway.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to take ownership of our MyRoster reporting estate, contribute to the evolution of our Data as a Service (DaaS) platform and support the development of modern Azure-hosted solutions. Working alongside technical specialists, business stakeholders and development teams, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative, scalable and customer-focused data services.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide technical leadership for the MyRoster reporting estate, developing and maintaining SQL Server databases, stored procedures, reporting solutions and supporting data structures.
- Support the development and delivery of the Data as a Service (DaaS) roadmap, ensuring solutions remain secure, scalable and aligned with governance and architectural standards.
- Manage and maintain Azure-hosted environments, coordinating upgrades, security improvements and platform enhancements.
- Work closely with Digital, Data & Technology (DDaT), DevOps, Asset Management and business stakeholders to deliver technical change and continuous service improvements.
- Mentor and support developers across the team, promoting engineering best practice and helping to develop technical capability.
- Support the Business Systems web and data estate, providing technical expertise and assisting with complex issue resolution.
- Identify opportunities to improve customer outcomes through automation, analytics, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
- Champion high standards of software engineering, automation, documentation and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience developing and supporting SQL Server databases, stored procedures and reporting solutions.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure and cloud-hosted environments.
- Experience developing business-critical software solutions and data integrations.
- Knowledge of APIs, data services and modern software development practices.
- Strong problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers.
