MyOme’s mission is to provide clinically actionable genetic information to patients throughout their lives. We combine clinical-grade whole genome sequencing, advanced AI methods for genome interpretation, and seamless digital tools for doctors and patients to order and access results. Our team is composed of seasoned entrepreneurs, scientists, and operators, and we're backed by top-tier investors.
Position Overview:
MyOme is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to lead the design and development of intelligent tools that empower Genetic Counselors to deliver better patient care faster. You'll work closely with our clinical team to understand their workflows, identify friction points, and build elegant solutions that integrate large language models and modern web technologies into their daily practice. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who's energized by solving real-world problems in healthcare and mentoring teammates in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
What You'll Do:
- Partner directly with Genetic Counselors and clinical leadership to understand workflows, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
- Design and build full-stack features that integrate LLMs into genetic counseling workflows—from report generation to patient communication to clinical decision support.
- Architect scalable APIs and database schemas to support real-time LLM integrations while maintaining HIPAA compliance and data integrity.
- Write clean, well-tested code across web frontends (React, TypeScript) and backend services (Django, Python).
- Evaluate and integrate LLM frameworks and APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source models) with appropriate safety guardrails and clinical validation.
- Lead technical design reviews and contribute to platform architecture decisions alongside the broader engineering team.
- Champion code quality, testing practices, and documentation across the team.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Participate in sprint planning, release cycles, and cross-functional product discussions.
What You'll Need:
- 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience (web applications, APIs, databases).
- Expert proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Strong experience with Django (or similar backend frameworks) and React (or similar frontend libraries).
- Solid understanding of relational databases, API design, and system architecture.
- Experience integrating with external APIs and third-party services.
- Familiarity with LLMs and AI/ML concepts—either through production experience or significant personal projects.
- Knowledge of Git, version control, and CI/CD practices.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to cross-functional problem-solving.
- A detail-oriented mindset with a drive for quality, accuracy, and user-centric design.
- Passion for working in mission-driven, fast-moving startup environments.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience building clinical software or working in regulated healthcare environments (HIPAA, CLIA, FDA 21 CFR Part 11).
- Knowledge of genomics, genetic testing, or genetic counseling workflows.
- Production experience with LLM applications, prompt engineering, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Exposure to Kubernetes or containerized deployment systems.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical projects.
Location, Compensation, and Benefits:
- Location: Hybrid role - 2 days a week at our San Francisco, CA office.
