Senior Fullstack Engineer

Hybrid in Brighton, United Kingdom; at least three days per week in the office.

About the Role

We’re partnering with a UK-based product company that is building its first internal product engineering team.

We're looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with strong TypeScript experience to become one of the foundational members of that team. This isn’t a traditional senior engineering role where you’ll join an established function and inherit existing ways of working. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape how engineering is done from the ground up, from architecture and technical standards to development practices, AI-assisted workflows, and eventually the team itself.

You’ll remain highly hands-on with the product while also acting as a technical leader: identifying risks, challenging existing approaches, making pragmatic architectural decisions, and helping other engineers grow.

As one of the first internal engineering hires, the impact of this role goes well beyond the code you write. You’ll help build the engineering environment and team that follows.

Key Responsibilities

• Building and evolving a modern product using TypeScript and full-stack web technologies.
• Taking ownership of key architectural and technical decisions Identifying technical risks and proactively proposing improvements.
• Helping define engineering standards, development practices, testing approaches, and ways of working.
• Working closely with product and company leadership to translate business needs into pragmatic technical solutions.
• Using and helping shape AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Mentoring and developing engineers as the team grows.
• Supporting the hiring, onboarding, and development of future engineering team members.
• Creating an engineering culture that balances quality, speed, pragmatism, and ownership.
• Remaining hands-on while helping provide technical direction to the wider team

Requirements

• Demonstrate a senior-level delivery track record of building and shipping systems with real users and consequences.
• Exhibit deep expertise in TypeScript including opinions on runtimes, type systems, and testing strategies.
• Possess strong system-design judgement with the ability to define integration boundaries and domain models.
• Show high AI fluency by regularly using tools and building workflows that leverage agents effectively.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both non-technical CEOs and peer engineers in written and verbal forms.
• Provide opinionated pushback and ensure the best architectural choices are made through active debate.
• Maintain professional comfort with ambiguity as the product roadmap and internal processes are not yet fully defined.
• Commit to working from the Brighton office at least three days per week as a firm requirement.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who combines strong hands-on engineering ability with evidence of technical and people leadership.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Significant experience building modern full-stack product applications
• Strong software architecture and system design fundamentals
• Experience taking ownership of technical direction rather than only executing against an existing solution
• A track record of making and communicating pragmatic technical decisions
• Demonstrable experience mentoring and developing other engineers
• Experience helping a team improve its engineering practices, standards, or ways of working
• Experience operating in environments where you’ve had a high degree of autonomy and ownership
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain decisions through specific examples and previous experience
• A product mindset and comfort working closely with non-engineering stakeholders
• Interest in using AI tools to improve the software development lifecycle
