Description

Senior Functional QA - Clearing, Settlement & Payments

Experience Required: 3 to 4 Yrs

Job Location: Lower Parel, Mumbai (Mon-Fri - WFO)

We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Senior Functional QA Engineer to test the business-critical financial applications modules, Pledging of shares, clearing and settlement, and payment modules of a leading Indian depository. This is an individual contributor role. You will own your modules end to end, from understanding requirements to signing off test results. That frees your Functional Lead to focus on coverage, risks and stakeholders rather than day-to-day follow-ups.

Key Responsibilities:

Domain & Functional Exposure:

  • Hands-on functional testing of complex financial applications or associated modules lie clearing and settlement, payment systems, or other transaction-intensive financial applications.
  • Understanding of trade and settlement life cycles, payment flows, reconciliation, cut-offs and exception handling.
  • Ability to write clear test scenarios and test cases, including negative, boundary and corner cases.
  • Comfortable preparing and validating test data, and using basic SQL to check data in the backend.

Requirement Understanding: Study requirements from the business point of view, list your questions, and get them answered before test design starts.

Test Design & Execution: Design, execute and maintain test cases for your modules with little supervision, and keep test evidence complete and audit-ready.

Corner Cases & Test Data: Think through how real business scenarios can break, prepare the data they need, and flag data that is missing, incorrect or sensitive.

Readiness Checks: Confirm that builds, environments, data and dependencies are ready before you start testing, and tell your lead early when they are not.

Defect Management: Log clear, reproducible defects with their business impact, follow them through triage, fix and retest, and flag at once any defect that blocks your testing.

Early Escalation: Raise dependencies, blockers and delay risks as soon as you see them, with facts and a suggested action, not just the problem.

Status & Reporting: Keep your progress, defects and risks up to date in the tracker so that your lead never has to chase you for status.

Team Support: Review peers' test cases when asked, share what you learn, and work in harmony with developers, business analysts and fellow testers.

Key KPIs & Success Measures:

  • Execution on plan: planned against actual test execution for your modules.
  • Defect quality: share of your defects accepted as valid, with few rejected or duplicate defects.
  • Defect leakage: defects in your modules that were missed and later found in UAT or production.
  • Blocker reporting time: time taken from spotting a blocker to raising it.
  • Review findings: review comments on your test cases, falling over time.
  • Lead follow-ups: how often your lead has to chase status, clarify requirements or redo your work.
  • Independence: share of features you own end to end without supervision.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, commerce, finance or a related field.
  • 3 to 4 years of experience in functional testing, preferably on banking, payments, capital markets or depository platforms.
  • Exposure to clearing and settlement or payment systems is a strong advantage.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong analytical and logical reasoning skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and the confidence to raise issues early.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and a test management or defect tracking tool.
  • ISTQB Foundation or NISM certification is good to have.
