Senior Geologist

The opportunity

At Downer, we plan, create and sustain. We are seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to join our Mineral Technologies team and support the delivery of high quality geology services across global projects.

Reporting to the Head of Geology and Mining, this role will provide technical execution across geological data management, modelling, interpretation, resource estimation and reporting. You will play a key role in ensuring geological inputs are accurate, consistent, traceable and aligned to project requirements across the full project lifecycle.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including metallurgy, laboratory, engineering, sales and business development teams, while also engaging with customers, contractors, laboratories and regulatory stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong geologist who enjoys hands on technical work, collaborative project delivery and contributing to safe, sustainable and high quality outcomes.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a detail oriented and proactive Senior Geologist with strong technical capability in geological modelling, resource estimation and technical reporting.

You will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Geology or a related discipline

• Minimum 5 years experience in geological modelling and resource estimation within mineral sands or a related mining sector

• Experience using geological software packages such as Surpac, Datamine or similar

• Demonstrated experience preparing or contributing to JORC compliant technical outputs

• Knowledge of JORC, S K 1300 and NI 43 101 resource estimation and reporting frameworks

• Strong capability in geological interpretation, data validation and modelling

• Proficiency in resource estimation and associated statistical methods

• Ability to develop cross sections, block models and reporting for internal and external stakeholders

• Competence in field logging, sampling methods and QA QC protocols

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• A commitment to safety, sustainability, quality and continuous improvement

You will be self motivated, quality focused and comfortable working independently as well as part of a broader project team. You will also be willing to support field based activities and contribute to knowledge sharing and mentoring across the team.
