Job purpose

Provide geological operations support for Biogenic-Shallow Gas Project wells including exploration, appraisal and development drilling projects and G&G related activities. Oversee closely geological operations for active drilling program of Biogenic-Shallow Gas Project wells including interpreting subsurface data and integrating well log and drilling data for decisions to ensure well objectives are met. Interpret drilling reports to aid in assessment of potential geologic hazards and provide geological input for the planned well and implement geological marker prognosis and well programs of Biogenic Shallow Gas Project.

Job specific accountabilities (part 1)

Provide pre-drill job preparations such as preparing offset well correlation panel, attend pre-spud or peer meetings, and ensure service contractors provide tools operating at optimum capabilities with the most cost-effective method to meet well objectives.
Provide technical support and quality oversight for wellsite geology processes, including mudlogging, LWD/MWD, wireline logging, coring, directional drilling and stimulation.
Provide expertise for planning, execution and look-back analysis for all wells drilled in the vicinity or offset wells, including but not limited to horizontal wells; work closely with project geologist/geomodeler and geophysicist to optimize the source/data/geological model to minimize geological uncertainty and provide geological input for the planned well, incorporating and implementing this information into geological marker prognosis of Biogenic Shallow Gas Project wells.
Plan, advise and supervise well design, mudlogging data acquisition, conventional coring, MWD/LWD, wireline logging, advanced formation evaluation tools, drilling operation, testing and stimulation, geological markers and interpretation, along with integration into well prognosis, well program and execution.
Collaborate with geomechanic specialist, reservoir and drilling engineer, applying pore pressure theory and techniques needed to assess pore pressure, fracture gradient and wellbore stability including advice on appropriate well design.
Perform real-time monitoring and interpretation of data acquired while drilling and integrate these data for decisions. Additionally, interpret drilling reports to aid in assessment of potential geologic hazards and tops selection.
Maintain open and close communication with project geologist/geomodeler, petrophysicist, drilling and petroleum engineer, OPCOs operation geologist and drilling team during vertical, deviated and horizontal drilling operations following chain of command.
Oversee sample examination, cuttings collections, petrophysical analysis and logs, geochemical data acquisition, perforation, testing and stimulation plans in close coordination with project G&G, petrophysicist, drilling and petroleum engineering and also OPCOs staff.
Monitor closely well trajectory plan versus actual and reservoir geology to ensure the well is on target; make geological interpretation and stratigraphic correlation, marker determination and quick look log interpretation of hydrocarbon zone/target while drilling; determine casing point, coring point, logging point, landing point and final well total depth; collaborate with OPCO’s operations geologist and geosteering specialist from service provider during geosteering of highly deviated and horizontal wells on a 24/7 operation basis to ensure proper placement of wellbore within a specific target and maximize reservoir contact.
Provide correlation panel and cross section as may be requested by the project team; coordinate and quality control geological data acquisition and gathering while drilling; maintain daily and weekly reporting system to update progress of geological operation well drilling; provide technical inputs for regular management reports.

Job specific accountabilities (part 2)

Contribute to selection of candidate interval for perforation, testing and stimulation by integrating all subsurface data including well logs, gas while drilling and others in collaboration with project petrophysicist, reservoir engineer and geomechanic specialist.
Coordinate the coring job from the planning stage, recommend core point determination, establish strategy of core acquisition, core handling and transportation from site to core store to meet objectives efficiently and safely.
Finalize the marker and survey elaborated with project geologist/geomodeler and petrophysicist as needed by the project team; collaborate with OPCO’s operation geologist in inputting and uploading files into corporate folder/database.
Provide the Geological End of Well Reports or Post Drilling Summary Report of wells drilled.
Support and work closely with the project team contributing to optimize development plan such as providing well locations, PAD drilling planning, trajectory plan review and geological model update to maximize field or well potential.
Operate and enforce safety practices within the operation complying with company policies, state and federal regulations; implement company’s health, safety and environmental policy, procedures, regulations and objectives related to the Senior Operations Geologist’s area of responsibility and ensure effective implementation by junior staff and support personnel.
Contribute to geological conventional and unconventional maturation studies and participate in evaluation of well proposals, geological studies or data gathering activities such as exploration, appraisal and development wells of Biogenic-Shallow Gas Project; offer advice when needed on scope of studies and extent of data gathering activities.
Provide input to optimize development plan, including well location and trajectory, PAD drilling plan, trajectory plan review and geological model update to maximize field or well potential.
Maintain contact with suppliers of geological software, staying up-to-date with latest software developments and new applications of potential value to the project.
Evaluate and recommend to geology specialist and Biogenic-Shallow Gas Project Manager acquisition of new software and hardware related to geological studies and added value to the project if needed; attend conferences, seminars and review technical periodicals.

Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve quality and efficiency of operational processes.
Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures, controls, applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and company code of practices.

Reports

Provide inputs to prepare section MIS and progress reports for company management.

Internal communications and working relationships

Daily interactions with staff within the department and division regarding project execution, including project geologist/geomodeler, geophysicist, petrophysicist, reservoir engineer, drilling and petroleum engineer.

External communications and working relationships

Frequent contacts with OPCO’s drilling and operations geologist staff, ISHs and SPC company’s staff on joint studies or exploration projects carried out by OPCOs or SPC companies.
Frequent contacts with consultants and service providers/contractors on projects carried out for Biogenic-Shallow Gas Project, and also with OPCOs or SPC companies.

Minimum qualification

Bachelor's degree in Geology or Engineering Geology.

Minimum experience, knowledge and skills

Minimum 8 years of experience in all aspects of exploration and development operation geology and drilling. Experience with geological and office software applications.
Presentation skills and experience with writing technical reports.

Professional certifications

As applicable.

Work condition, physical effort and work environment

Physical effort: Minimal

Work environment: Air-conditioned environment; may be exposed to prevailing weather conditions such as heat, humidity and dust during occasional site visits.
