Senior Geotechnical Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer based in South Africa.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to technically challenging offshore and renewable energy projects within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
You will support projects across the full engineering lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through FEED, detailed design, and installation.
The role focuses on geotechnical design and analysis for offshore foundations and installation performance.
You will work closely with engineers across disciplines to develop robust, practical solutions for complex engineering challenges.
As a senior member of the team, you will provide technical leadership, share your expertise, and mentor colleagues where appropriate.
You will also build strong relationships with clients and communicate technical findings clearly to both engineering and wider project teams.
This role is well suited to a technically driven engineer looking to make an impact in offshore and renewable energy.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and perform geotechnical analyses for offshore foundation systems, including gravity-based foundations, piled foundations, suction cans, and anchors.
  • Assess installation performance and contribute to the development of reliable offshore engineering solutions.
  • Support engineering projects through multiple stages, including conceptual design, feasibility studies, FEED, detailed design, and installation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop comprehensive and technically sound solutions for clients.
  • Independently investigate and resolve complex geotechnical and engineering problems while contributing effectively within a wider team.
  • Review and assess geotechnical and ground investigation data to support engineering decisions and project development.
  • Prepare clear and technically accurate reports, presentations, and analysis outputs.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations effectively to engineering teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Share specialist knowledge with colleagues and provide mentoring and technical guidance where appropriate.
  • Requirements:

    • Professional experience in geotechnical design, site investigation, or a closely related discipline, ideally within offshore energy or renewable energy.
    • Degree in Civil Engineering, with a BEng preferred; postgraduate study such as a Master's degree is advantageous.
    • Solid knowledge of ground investigation, geotechnical engineering principles, and geological processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to assess engineering and geotechnical data and perform appropriate analyses.
    • Experience producing high-quality technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex technical challenges independently.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
    • Ability and willingness to share knowledge, support colleagues, and contribute to a technically strong team environment.
    • Civil Engineering graduates with relevant offshore data acquisition or related experience may also be considered.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive salary of £65,000–£85,000.
      • 25 days of annual holiday.
      • Flexible working hours.
      • Fully remote working available, with hybrid or office-based options also available.
      • Life assurance.
      • Access to affiliated training schemes supporting professional engineering chartership.
      • Professional membership fees covered.
      • Opportunities to travel and work with teams across different international offices.
      • Cycle-to-work scheme.
      • Quarterly team-building activities.
      • Opportunity to develop within a supportive environment that invests in engineering talent and professional growth.
