Senior Geotechnical Engineer Manager
This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer Manager to lead complex infrastructure and development projects across New England for our Merrimack, NH office. This is a high-impact leadership role for an experienced geotechnical professional who combines strong technical expertise with project management, client development, and team leadership capabilities.
Alternative office locations include Eliot, ME, Portland, ME, Chelmsford, MA, Worchester, MA, Boston, MA, North Providence, RI, Shelton, CT or Glastonbury, CT.
In this position, you will oversee geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design efforts supporting transportation, infrastructure, energy, building, and private development projects. You will serve as a trusted technical advisor, mentor emerging engineers, and help drive the continued growth of WSP's geotechnical practice.
Your Impact
- Lead geotechnical engineering projects from proposal and planning through design, construction, and project closeout.
- Provide technical oversight for geotechnical investigations, subsurface exploration programs, foundation design, slope stability evaluations, retaining structures, and earthwork projects.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, quality, and client deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Review and prepare engineering reports, specifications, calculations, and construction documents.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff. - Support business development activities, client relationship management, and proposal pursuits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and safety policies.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline with a geotechnical focus.
- 10+ years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in a New England state or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
- Experience leading geotechnical engineering design and construction projects.
- Strong project management, technical writing, and client-facing skills.
- Proficiency with geotechnical engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in both office and field environments.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support project and client requirements.
- Ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to be comfortable in remote settings and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment. Occasional travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
- Experience with rock mechanics, rock slope stabilization, and related design applications.
- Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary projects and technical teams.
- Established client relationships and business development experience within the New England market.
- Active participation in professional engineering organizations.
