A little more about your role

We are looking for a Tailings Engineer to join our Mine Waste team in Accra, Ghana. This intermediate-level role will support the delivery of tailings and geotechnical engineering services across a wide range of mining projects.

You will be responsible for managing technical project activities, analysing and interpreting geotechnical and tailings data, preparing engineering reports, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers. You will also work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, practical, and sustainable mine waste solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex and high-impact mining projects, contributing to the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities and other mine waste infrastructure within a collaborative and globally connected environment.

You will

Provide tailings engineering services and technical advice on complex tailings and mine waste projects.

Perform technical analyses and interpret geotechnical and tailings data to develop engineering recommendations.

Support the design, inspection, operation, and management of tailings storage facilities and mine waste infrastructure.

Conduct stability, seepage, deposition, and closure assessments for water and tailings dams.

Apply advanced engineering techniques and analytical methods to support project delivery and decision-making.

Coordinate project resources, schedules, and technical deliverables to achieve project objectives and deadlines.

Supervise construction activities and provide quality assurance for earthworks and liner installation works.

Prepare technical reports and contribute to the development of proposals and tender submissions.

Act as a key communication link between senior and junior team members.

Provide technical mentoring, coaching, and knowledge transfer to junior tailings and geotechnical engineers.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients.

Promote and demonstrate safety leadership in all aspects of project delivery.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and uphold WSP quality standards and business systems.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

Bachelor's Degree (BEng or BSc) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum of 8 years' post-graduate experience with specialist skills in tailings and geotechnical engineering.

Experience delivering mining-related projects, including tailings storage facilities and mine waste infrastructure.

Sound understanding of tailings management, dam engineering, closure planning, stability assessments, and seepage analysis.

Experience supervising construction and quality assurance activities on mining or geotechnical projects.

Strong project management capabilities, including planning, coordination, and resource management.

Knowledge of engineering legislation supporting water use and waste management licence applications.

Proficiency in:

Microsoft Word

Advanced Microsoft Excel

Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Project

Slope stability analysis software

Seepage analysis and modelling software

Strong technical report writing and communication skills.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Ability to mentor and lead junior team members while contributing positively to multidisciplinary project teams.

Desirable

MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.

Professional registration with the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) or equivalent professional body.

Experience in mine closure planning and dam safety assessments.

Financial awareness, including understanding of Work in Progress (WIP), Accounts Receivable, and DSO management.

Experience with additional geotechnical and engineering software packages.
