Senior GIS Specialist

Summary

Senior GIS Specialist designs, develops, and maintains advanced GIS applications, databases, and automation workflows while providing onsite support at a Sacramento-area government site.

Position Summary The Senior GIS Specialist performs advanced GIS analysis, application development, automation, database design, systems integration, and complex technical troubleshooting. The position serves as a senior technical resource for enterprise GIS applications, data services, analytical workflows, and modernization activities. The position combines remote work with onsite support. The employee must report to the designated Government site in the Sacramento, California area for meetings, system access, training, project activities, incident response, or other mission requirements. The specific onsite schedule is established by the Program Manager and Government customer. Primary Responsibilities
  • Analyze GIS requirements and design technical solutions.
  • Develop, test, implement, document, and maintain GIS applications and workflows.
  • Build automation scripts, analytical tools, GIS models, and repeatable processing routines.
  • Design and maintain databases, schemas, services, and system integrations.
  • Perform advanced mapping, spatial analysis, geoprocessing, imagery analysis, and modeling support.
  • Support dashboards, web applications, APIs, enterprise services, and web GIS content.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, database, service, integration, and performance issues.
  • Conduct peer reviews of code, analytical methods, data changes, and technical products.
  • Support release planning, deployment, rollback, validation, and root-cause analysis.
  • Mentor GIS personnel and provide technical training to users and administrators.
  • Support architecture assessments, modernization planning, and technical recommendations.
  • Assist with incident response and escalation for complex technical issues.
  • Maintain application, database, integration, and configuration documentation.
  • Participate in onsite meetings, testing, training, and support activities in the Sacramento, California area as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, GIS, computer science, engineering, natural sciences, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible GIS experience.
  • Experience designing GIS databases, applications, scripts, and analytical workflows.
  • Experience maintaining enterprise GIS applications and data.
  • Proficiency with Python, ModelBuilder, or comparable automation tools.
  • Ability to document technical solutions and communicate with technical and nontechnical users.
  • Ability to work effectively under a hybrid arrangement and report to the Sacramento-area Government site as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, Portal, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Experience with C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript, React, Python, Arcade, HTML, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with SQL Server, IIS, REST services, APIs, and enterprise geodatabases.
  • Experience with dashboards, web mapping, imagery, LiDAR, remote sensing, or 3D analysis.
  • Experience supporting federal enterprise GIS or mission-critical applications.
  • Relevant Esri, GIS, cloud, database, or software-development certification.
