Senior Health and Safety Specialist

Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an individual to coordinate the implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the Environmental Services Business Operating Unit in the US.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field assessments, planned job observations, and worksite inspections independently and with leadership (which may require overnight travel).
- Provide technical assistance to project teams with pre-job planning and hazard assessments for field activities and the integration of client HSSE requirements.
- Work with the HSSE Managers to track and manage incidents, identify effective preventative and corrective actions, and develop and share lessons learned.
- Help identify medical surveillance requirements based on anticipated project exposures.
- Apply practical knowledge and experience to independently solve HSSE problems related to areas within their operational control.
- Support project teams during internal and third-party audits.
- Promote HSSE within the area of responsibility with the goal of continuous improvement of HSSE culture.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Professional safety certification will be considered an asset but is not required. Preferred certifications include: CSP/CRSP, CIH, SME – CMSP, ASP, GSP, OHST or CHST.
- Extensive experience in HSSE related to field operations is required.
- Maintain required field HSSE courses to work in the relevant sectors.
- Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and to work independently.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Capable of delivering, preparing, and presenting to small and large groups.
- A willingness to work in a team atmosphere or with a minimal amount of supervision.
- Able to lift 50-lbs. and the ability to safely navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain, enter active construction sites, enter structures under construction, and wear specialized personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
Education and Experience
- A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a health and safety profession preferred.
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field will be considered an asset but is not required.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
