SENIOR HEALTH PHYSICIST

This position is located in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), Division of Materials Safety, Security and State Programs (MSSS), Medical Safety and Events Assessments Branch (MSEB). The supervisor is Christian Einberg. This position is subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting requirements and security ownership restriction reporting requirements. The successful candidate will perform the full range of Senior Health Physicist duties. Such duties include but are not limited to: Serving as an NRC technical authority and Agency-wide expert responsible for the health physics, radiation protection, internal and external dosimetry, and assessment of human health effects (epidemiology) for nuclear reactors and nuclear materials, fusion, and materials security activities. Providing management and staff consultation and review for other NRC organizational units and outside groups, including industry and international organizations pertinent to the health physics and radiation protection program areas. Compiles and evaluates reports from licensees, government agencies and international experts on radiation protection experience and impacts on Commission policy and operations. Providing authoritative technical and policy direction, advice, and assistance to the management team relative to guidance and policies for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and determinations that regulatory criteria are met. Provides expert technical advice and develops written products regarding technical evaluations of generic and licensee-specific radiation safety issues and reviews of regulatory guides, proposed rule changes, and other documents from across the NRC and other regulatory bodies. Develops guidance documents for emerging medical technologies, rulemakings, regulatory guides and NUREGSs, and other licensing and policy products as needed. Maintains awareness of new radiopharmaceutical developments and provides strategic advice to branch chief and division director. Gives presentations and represents the agency at professional societies and other government organizations. Developing and managing activities and documents to ensure consistent implementation of policies. This includes serving as an authoritative leader for technical and policy coordination between all NRC program offices and all business lines. Providing liaison with officials within all the NRC program offices as a representative of the division director.
